Brake Squeal
Folks,
Any idea what causes brake squeal? My car has developed a nasty habit of squealling which isn't too pleasant to my ears. What do I look for? Thanks. |

RE: Brake Squeal
My 850 T5 does this..
The first thing to make sure is that the 'Anti-Squeel' shims are in place behind the pads. You may find that by taking the brakes pads out, cleaning the shims then replacing (don't forget a smear of copper slip and a Brake Pin kit), that the problem will go away for a while! Ian |

RE: Brake Squeal
some ideas,
ack of shims causeing the pads to rattle in the pistons. Lack of copper grease for good adhersion between piston and pad rear. Contaminated disc service or pad or even wear, ie ruts in the disc so pads don't make a good mateing on application. sticking pistion on one side of the caliper if rears so not excerting full application. mark

RE: Brake Squeal
I recently changed my pads (and disks) - there were no shims present and it never used to squeal ...
I re-assembled with new pads (Europarts) and copper slip (though not very much as I ran out ...) and it was fine for 3 months - it now squeals between 20 and 5 mph but only on light brake pedal pressure. I've put it down to lack of copper slip and am now kicking myself for not buying more when I first did the job ! Since I will have to have it apart again does anyone know if I can buy the shims on their own ? £? I feel a belt and braces approach is required here ... Brgds Steve |

about 10 quid from volvo, a pair for each side in a 'L' shape. The arrow needs to be pointing upwards
fixed my problem after i suffered the 'bus' noise effect.
