ABS CODE 3-1-4 LIGHT ON 1995 850 t5

i have code 3-1-4
3-1-4 Right rear wheel sensor: open circuit or short-circuit

is this a common problem
i clear the codes but it comes right back even after driving it over 20mph it still doesnt clear and just shows up again.
my back disks are well worn and the pads are none existent

I'd get the back brakes changed first. Maybe they are just too worn.
After starting the car and driving up to 20mph, the ABS does a self test, so if the fault is still there, the ABS warning light will relight.
If the fault is still there after changing the brakes, then it's either a faulty wheel sensor or a fault ABS ecu....I think the faulty ecu usually gives the faulty rear right sensor error?

im selling that t5 as i now have a 1996 t5
so would rather not change the brakes

I guess you either find a mug who doesn't know how much the repairs will cost, or accept that someone will knock quite a few hundred off the asking price. Some people might go as far as pulling the bulbs and hope a buyer doesn't notice.
If I saw the car with the warning light, and knew it needed new brakes, I'd look for another one.....

i couldnt sell it with the fault as it wouldnt be right
all i want to know is where the fault could lie?
and if there are any common faults that could cause this.

It's nothing to do with pads or disks

ECU is not seeing the signal from sensor.

Which system is it?

Teves (Black ECU under hydraulic unit)

or previous one seporate silver ECU.

I would think you have a fault with the wiring or the sensor itself.
Check for loose/dirty/broken connectors or wiring faults from the ECU to the sensor.

The resistance of the sensor should be about 1100 ohms, it should produce an output of around 150mV when you rotate the wheel at 1 rev per sec.

You may find that the two rear sensors are in one loom and have to be replaced as a pair, in this case the connector is in the luggage compartment under the floor.
