Centre Cubby V50 MY 2009
Hi I have a V50 MY2009 1.6d SE Lux and I need to remove the centre cubby to get at the cigarette lighter wiring. The one I am talking about is the one that has the roll top cover and then underneath there are 2 drinks holders, I can get the drinks holders out no problem but them there ia a grey lining which obviously comes out but I cant work out how and don't want to damage it if anyone can advise I would be most grateful
regards Ian

Hi, a pretty big job that one, you have to take the bottom of the dash off and the centre stack off and the storage bin etc out. I presume you want to tap into the power ? I have got a guide (on my laptop i think) that i downloaded but took one look, thought bugger that and got to the ciggy power another way. Let me know if you want me to post the guide.

Enter car MY and model, tick "Electrical system" then "Search" and you'll get a menu, scroll down to "USB/iPod Music interface" and view the steps in either .pdf or Html format, it shows the steps of how to remove that sucker, but loads more on that page, so browse around. It teaches you how to tare your Volvo apart |

Or do the above and pick 'Body and Interior', then 'Decor panel, tunnel console'. Of course, you don't need to do all the instructions, but that will tell you how to lift up the storage piece hidden by the floating console, pull down the section of the underside of the dash and remove the screws holding the tunnel console in.
With the front storage and dash underside removed you should be able to work out which are the pair of wires to the front accessory socket so you can tap into those. There should be space behind the dash to hide the power connector and sat nav power gubbins. For myself I removed all the insides of a USB ciggie lighter thing and fitted them into a small project box with an inline fuse. The power leads tapped into the front socket as above. The USB output goes to a small four-way USB hub I got from a pound shop by way of a six-inch flexi, giving me lots of useful power outlets for sat nav, PSP and anything else I can think of. The main cable comes from under the dash where the removable panel clips in to the project box which, together with the hub, are velcro-ed to the back of the floating console and out of sight. The phone sits in a powered cradle which has its own separate supply, hardwired also to the 12V sockets but without needing the step-down. The phone power comes up from the centre console to the mount which hangs off the side. |
