Continental Driving
Hi,
I am taking my 02 V70 to France in August and would like to know how to go about converting the headlamps for continental driving. Apologies if this query is answered elsewhere but I could only find a solution for the 850. The 'kits' you can buy at Halfords etc, look as though they are not suitable for the narrow, long Volvo lenses. I understand you can use black electricians tape...but wher does it go? Many thanks in advance. Jon |

RE: Continental Driving
Most kits are designed for most cars - the ones I use when coming from The Netherlands to the UK are just the standard ones sold in Halfords. Inside they a few pages explaining where to fit on the different lights. x70's are all included.

RE: Continental Driving
Hi Jon
Nice, I am off to France as well in August, all the way down to Biaritz. Made the trip across to France now for many years, excellent roads to cruise down. Re your lights, do not use the ones that are clear and just have sticky tape around the edge. I lost mine within the 1st 100 miles, not enough surface contact at the speeds you will be travelling, plus of course they are slightly raised and interfere with headlamp wipers. Get the black ones that you cut yourself. Paul Now theres an idea for the Club Shop, how about stocking some of these???? |

RE: Continental Driving
I was in my local Volvo dealer on Saturday morning while they were checking whether the factory had fitted the wrong size brakes on my C70 T5 (they had!) and saw on their accessory display that there are rigid headlamp covers available from Volvo that both protect the lens and convert to continental dip pattern. Worth checking out perhaps?

Thanks,
I asked about those covers - retail about £30 - or did! The service department said Volvo have withdrawn them because of some Euro regulation! Shame, cos they looked quite good from the pictures. Jon |

Jon,
If you are interested in getting the Volvo ones, it might be worth giving my local dealer a call as they had them on display for the current V70. It's SMW Volvo in Belfast and the phone number is 028 9068 6000. I'm sure they would take credit card details over the phone and post them to you. P.S. I've just edited this as I see that the club shop apparently does headlamp protectors. Not sure if they are for continental motoring but maybe worth a look as well? |

Thanks Simon,
I'll look into that. I checked my dealer from Derby, but I was wondering if any other dealers still had them. I'll let you know. Jon |
