You can confirm this by using the Volvo Maps website, pre 2006 is not selectable for North America maps ...

North America - http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INT.../Default-Start

And European maps ended in 2013 so anywhere with 2014 onwards are fake.

The latest Volvo maps can be downloaded directly.

2006 models onwards use internal Harddrives to store map data, data is transferred from the DVD's to the harddrive, the DVD's are then no longer required.
Pre 2006(like yours) use the DVD's directly and require the DVD's to be permanently in the DVD drive.

As far as I'm aware the latest North American maps available for the MMM(non harrdrive) system is 2013.
Maps from 2014 onwards are only compatible with MMM+(with harddrive) systems.

But I hope your right, good luck ...

Also I was thinking. Is it possible to upgrade my DVD unit with a HDD unit? How much of a hassle is it?

Looks like they just sell copied discs. You can do that yourself.

Ok time to give my 2c in the hope that it helps the other newbies.
I came across this thread 2 days ago when I searched for updates for sat nav as Im driving a 2005 S40 T5 and noticed that there were a lot of roads missing.

I did the following.

(1) Found the link to another site in this thread -

http://gpsunderground.com/forum/volv...m-p2001-3.html

(2) Which had a link to a torrent site uploaded by swebigmac
Latest version for Volvo RTI (MMM/P2001)

https://thepiratebay.se/torrent/1042...MMM_2001P_2014

My internet server provider (virgin media) blocks the torrent sites so I had to use a proxy server to access it.

https://pirateproxy.la/torrent/10425...MMM_2001P_2014

You need to use a torrent site to download this and I have Utorrent on my laptop

http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/win

(3) Once it was downloaded onto my laptop I went out and purchased Verbatim 8x DVD+R DL (Dual layer) as advised by the guys here.

(4) Next I downloaded imgburn as it seems to be the dvd burner of choice on this thread

WARNING - When I downloaded and tried to install this my AVG security blocked it as it said there was malware attached, I chose to override this and allow it to install.

http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download&

(5) Next I opened imgburn and selected the option in the top right corner -

WRITE IMAGE FILE TO DISC

I selected the lowest write speed I could which was x2 but it said the lowest speed my laptop would go is x3 so this is what I went with.
It asks you to select the source file so I clicked on the magnifying glass and selected Navigation Disc A as this covers Ireland and clicked on the write icon at the bottom of the screen.

Disc finished about 15/20 mins later and ejected.

I didn't expect this disc to work as I have read that you need to have the disc labeled for the dvd player to read it but tried it anyway.

GREAT NEWS IS IT WORKED FIRST TIME

I put the original disc back in and went into the system settings and took a pic of the about screen, then put the new disc back in and did the same.

Ive attached the photos of both to show you guys.

This is the original disc in the dvd player
