Question Volvo C30 D5 oil viscosity question

Good evening completely new to this site so hello all,
I have recently acquired a Volvo C30 d5 2009 model
I'm just looking into doing a oil change on it,
I have read the specification and it refers to using 0W-30 oil
Now I work for Volvo trucks and we use 5W-30 oil
I have checked the viscosity chart on the spec also and appears that the oil should be ok between temperatures of -20 and 30•c
Now statistically it should be ok to use the same oil but I'm just wandering if anyone has actually deviated from the spec and whether or not it makes much difference ?
Ill appreciate all your feedback
Ps I live in Northampton, England so temperatures below -20 are pretty much never going to happen
KR

I know where you're coming from on using another oil that falls within Volvo's range chart and I've done the same on my older D5. I use Shell Helix Ultra 5 40 (I only need A3 B4 spec).
On your newer D5 though and for as long as you can, I would continue to use the 0 30.
You never know though, another member may reassure you that they've deviated to a thicker oil for thousands of miles without issue.

Thanks for the reply
I've just always used the oils at work, but obviously Volvo being Volvo I definetly don't want any problems as the bills will be astronomical
Unless someone can reassure me think it will be best to splash out on decent oil for once

I think that's wise.
With a bit of planning and using Eurocarparts or an online supplier like Opie oils, it doesn't have to get expensive.
The big bucks for oil is usually when you're last minute and buying from a petrol station or Halfords.
Re your filter, you might find my thread here useful. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=231516

Would you still recommend castrol oil as they specify ?
As I work for a main dealer every vehicle takes the same oil no messing around unlike this car milarki lol

I wouldn't say I'd recommend the Castrol in particular as I've not used it though I swear by Castrol Racing in my bikes.
If your car's always had Castrol, then why not continue if it's done ok on it.
The main thing for me would be the A5B5 spec, 0 30 viscosity and a decent brand.

It the a5 b5 spec that's important for the dpf. Personally I would stick to using the castrol 0 30 but I can see no harm in you using the 5 30 as long as it was the a5 b5 spec. I imagine truck oils would be low ash with all there emissions gismos on?

I can get a5b5 ***h from a local factor for about £6 a gallon( 5 litres) cheaper than I can get castrol 4 litre containers, both are 0-30 .
I laid in a stock of castrol when I was gifted a discount voucher for halfrauds, at 25% off it was slightly cheaper than the ***h or I would be during ***h now.

Swear filter will not allow the name of a quality German oil manufacturer.

Paul.
