Volvo XC70
Hi I'm hoping someone can help me I took the car for its MOT last week and it failed owing to the wipers not working. The mechanic I use told me it's the body control module is faulty and he's talking about £1000 just for a new module and then it will have to be taken to Volvo to reprogram it for another £1500. He doesn't know if a secondhand one would do so is there anybody have any way out of spending so much money on the car I hope someone may be able to shine some light on the problem. I just don't have that sort of money to lay out on the car.

Sounds extremely suspect to me, Volvo do not charge £1500 for programming. Sounds like your mechanic doesn’t want the job or doesn’t know how to repair so is scaring you away with the old it will cost a fortune chestnut.
Have a search for a Volvo specialist or even just a good reviewed and recommended garage who specialise in diagnosis work. The module may well be faulty but it could also be a number of other far cheaper and common causes, as mentioned the stalks have known to cause the odd issue. I would certainly be seeking a clear justification or second opinion.
