Terminology
Morning all,
On some of the threads on here where members are investigating whines/grinding etc from the front of their XC90s, I see terms such as "Front Diff", "Bevel Gear", "Angle Gear", "Transfer Box" used. I'm just wondering if these are all just different names for the same thing? Any clarification would be much appreciated. Thanks. |

They are 4 different things, althougn depending on a cars design more than one of these items could be present in the same unit or housing.
In order to understand the functions of these items it helps to understand how 4WD and AWD work. This will be of interest... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=18YNpG7IAQ8
