I recently enquired about some top mounts for my Dad's V70. PFS website said "quality aftermarket" item on the listings. I asked what brand the top mounts were and they told me "Pro Parts Sweden". I'd never heard of them before...

I looked online at reviews and come to the conclusion that Pro Parts Sweden weren't very good, so I didn't buy from them.

You don't want doing suspension work twice, well, not sooner than you need to anyway. I bought Meyle instead.

They told me they've binned their PPS propshaft centre bearing carriers so let us know what brand they are as they're meant to be stocking Meyle and Febi.

My febi one failed after 3k miles so I bit the bullet and bought a genuine Volvo one for £120. When it came it was just a Meyle carrier in a Volvo bag, made in China stamped on it. I was fuming as you can get the Meyle ones for £30ish. I thought I'll try it anyway and if it's junk get a refund, I pressed an skf bearing in to it and it's actually been fine. No vibration until I got to about 90-100mph on track but that could be the propshaft needs balancing.

I wouldnt touch PPS stuff with a bargepole ! I got given a load of front suspension bushes from them and the quality was awful !! I just binned it all.

Ugh, less PPS and more FFS.

I'll Send a load of it back and ask if they do anything good... I don't want to be doing this twice.

I've already done 3x Water Pumps due to crap parts and stuff ike that makes younwantnto give up on a vehicle!

Speak to Brookhouse and see if they are stocking the Meyle ones, if not then probably best to buy it yourself from somewhere, they should get it to you pretty quickly if you want one asap.

There was some excess rubber in the Meyle one where the bearing goes so I just cut some of it off with a razor blade.

Push the middle out of the PPS one and you'll feel how soft it is!

Checking back in to report my findings.

It is a shame there is no easy way of slapping photos up from a mobile or I would.

Rear nivomats and springs were first.

Quite easy to do. None of the rubbers were shot and the stud thingy that holds the spring into the chassis came.out so I replaced it with a nice succulent bolt.

Whilst in there I discovered the flexible brake lines looked unwell. Undecided to replace them as I had braided ones in stock from ages ago. I learned something. Brake.flexis literally blow up in your face if you give them too much blowtorch. No harm done. All bled up. Business as usual.

Prop centre bearing was absolutely obliterated. Bits of cage were hanging out. Metal dust around it etc. properly buggered. I decided to use the PPS carrier. 1) car already in a position where it needed doing and I had no alternative. 2) I don't mind doing it again if we find the carrier and bearing are rubbish and it helps others not make my mistake.

You can do the bearing and carrier without a press. Just use punches and drifts. Take your time and don't hit the bearing seal. Made sure Innail varnished the prop and all the flanges and it all went together well. No drive line vibration yet but I have yet to V max it - can do that on the way to work tomorrow.

Front strut and spring replacement. Track rod ends, easy to break the taper. Bottom balljoint less so. A lot of vigorous copper mallet and some plus gas taught it a lesson. Top mount bearings were utterly goosed. One fell apart when I took it off. The other was orange, dusty and the plastic had rubbed through in several areas. Shocks also completely trashed. Less than 5kg to compress them fully with leaky hissy noises from the seals around the stanchions. No rebound. You squash them down, they stay there. Didn't get round to doing brake flexis but they weren't cracked like the backs. Another day.

Findings so far on the bilstein B4 with heavy duty rear springs are mixed. I've barely driven it yet but already it feels.less nautical which is sad. Even flopping into the driver's seat, there is little to no movement in the suspension where as before it slipped about.

Whilst it already feels more like it controls it's weight, I don't know if I like it. To state the obvious, the weather has been appalling and the state of Wiltshire's roads is dire. My journey to work has been very soft and squishy but quite comfy. I hope the new shocks don't ruin this.

Other jobs on the list are to do the diff oil, new rad, new exhaust, non leaking slave cylinder, more brake pads and change the flexis. After that I will chase some wobbly bushes and leave it at that for now.

Thanks for the tips. Will report back soon as the new suspension beds in.

Ps - arb bushes look tired and cracked at 2 years old. Calipers and sliders moving well after 2 years.
