940 GL fifty shades of grey turbo conversion
So my customer found this 940 and wanted it turbo converting instead of the 760 estate I started a thread on before... so let's try again.
The Volvo is a 1991 940 GL saloon with only 129k miles on the clock, B200F and M47 manual (engine and gearbox are for sale). It runs lovely for a car that has been sat for nearly a year. I believe the story is that it was one owner from new, he passed away and it ended up being bought by the owner of an MOT station in Wrexham. First things first was to go around it and make a list of problems. Intermittent wiper doesn't work but the rest of it does Speedometer sits at 45mph at standstill, the faster you go the "slower" the speedo goes Rot in battery tray Rot in air filter housing tray Rust on rear arches Some ejit has jacked it up on the O/S sill at the front and crushed it, luckily somehow it hasn't broken the paint and not rusted Front brake discs and pads shot N/S headlight wiper parked in wrong position, or has a N/S motor fitted. I'm yet to investigate this one further All tyres knackered Front suspension bushes shot Rust in N/S wing Headlining is a mess of glue, staples and pins! But first things first was an overdue wash! Here it is as it arrived. 20201114_105759 by Luke Ryland - Flickr2BBcode LITE 20201114_105831 by Luke Ryland - Flickr2BBcode LITE IMG-20201113-WA0010 by Luke Ryland - Flickr2BBcode LITE IMG-20201113-WA0012 by Luke Ryland - Flickr2BBcode LITE IMG-20201113-WA0015 by Luke Ryland - Flickr2BBcode LITE IMG-20201113-WA0016 by Luke Ryland - Flickr2BBcode LITE IMG-20201113-WA0018 by Luke Ryland - Flickr2BBcode LITE The interior is in great condition apart from the headlining. So after a wash it now looks presentable. 20201114_105903 by Luke Ryland - Flickr2BBcode LITE I then swapped the horrible Omega wheels on to the 760 and the Aurigas off the 760 on to the 940... first time I've had to hammer wheels off a Volvo before! The Omegas were seized on to the rusty disc mating faces. IMG-20201113-WA0046 by Luke Ryland - Flickr2BBcode LITE IMG-20201113-WA0050 by Luke Ryland - Flickr2BBcode LITE IMG-20201113-WA0044 by Luke Ryland - Flickr2BBcode LITE I sprayed some chain grease on to the brake mating faces as a temporary measure to stop the Aurigas from sticking before I can change the brakes. I have swapped the 760 for a B230FK engine for this 940. The 760 will be going to have its B280E removed and a Lexus V8 fitted with a manual gearbox off something else, so another one saved! Once the engine arrives I will fit all new seals and give it a clean up. |

If it was me I would of stuck with the 760 estate as a more rare car. Estate too so more practical. More goodies like AC, ABS, Leather interior etc.
V8 Lexus engine in it sounds interesting. Look forward to the updates on the 940. James. |

I've yet to suggest it, doubt he will go for it though.
Customer is like me, much prefers saloons and likes a good sleeper car. The end goal for this one is to be about 200hp and very subtle. |

Well I've sold the B200F for the customer after it being on ebay for about 5 hours! Engine is going in a boat, he wants to pick it up Saturday so tomorrow the engine and gearbox are coming out!
Also thankfully the customer is on the same page as me so I've ordered the whole front suspension bush setup in polybush Also ordered myself a 12 ton hydraulic press to make removing and fitting the new bushes a doddle. Last edited by 360beast; Nov 15th, 2020 at 19:46. |

Have you got any links to any of the poly bush stuff Luke? Main ones i'm intersted in are the space ship bushes, got other plans for the rear bushes in the control arms!

Spaceship bushes are a must in poly in my mind. Here are the links https://www.partsforvolvosonline.com...e4f11cb3b6fe93 https://www.classicswede.co.uk/Poly_...5_1625034.aspx Just to add that the front bushes are completely shagged on this 940, I took it around the block to check it drives okay. When reversing the car park skip is ridiculous! I don't get any in my 940. |

Compared to gen Volvo Rubber ( £22.00 each ) they are good value

None of the Superflex offerings look similar to the actual spaceship bushes, nearest i could find were : https://www.superflex.co.uk/proddeta...=SF420-1023KSS Works out at £21 per side but if they've made them that simply rather thanhaving them the same shape as the Volvo originals then i have ideas............

I quite like the quirkiness though, part of the RB's history, so it will be staying like that. This is a fascinating thread - I'll look forward to the next instalment. :-) Last edited by Othen; Nov 16th, 2020 at 12:54. Reason: Grammar. |
