Yep George a Korean bus,
Its OK cos they will treat me nice now that they have ahe A bomb!!!
I was like you, under my 740 with a spanner whenever I needed to which was mercifully rare. It was comfortable, fast , spacious and economical.
I thought that the 940 which has the same rolling chassis as the 740 would be as reliable and comfortable. Unfortunately it was not to be.
The chassis was the same but the engine was noisier. Fuel consumption was down 5mpg on the same 1000mile run. The seats were harder and less comfortable. That said it never actually broke down on the road. What did happen was that one stupid thing after another happened. (if you are really interested give me your address and I'll forward the list) and I spent nearly every weekend under the car. Everything went. Suspension, gearbox, clutch, brakes, steering and so on. I was like you George. Ive got a fully equipped garage as I an restoring a 1936 Lanchester. I know every nut bolt screw of the 7/9 series (except the electronics. The oil was changed at 5k and the engine is as sweet as a nut. I should have guessed that the dealer was not up to much when I reported a leaking turbo manifold joint only to be told that this was a very complicated job and they had not done it. (Peter Milnes advised the correct way) There comes a time for change. It is VOLVOS policy to allow dealers large areas and to restrict competition. So be it. We were due to replace £50-60k worth of cars. Business expenses tax allowable. So Volvo lost this. We didnt change one and we bought the Hyundai. My 940 is now the firms van with paint and rubbish in the back. My old 740 is now being lovingly restored by a friend and runs beautifully and he has instructions to give it me back if ever he gets rid of it. As for my treatment at the Hyundai garage so far ? All I can say is that if I was Volvo I would hire the lot of them to learn how it is done. Cheers Nige email sheerwater@ntlworld.com
