2014 XC60 Gearbox Oil Change
Hi all.
Just thought I'd post a thread about my recent gearbox oil flush. Apologies if it's in the wrong area, but I think it's interesting information for those still running the TF-80SC boxes and I'd like to share my end result. Credit to Volvosweden on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAb9p8Wph-M Followed this video and it made it easy. The vehicle in question is a 2014MY XC60 R-Design D5 AWD Lux Nav, D5244T15 engine with a TF-80SC 6 speed. The car ran fine, but I felt the gearbox was getting very dim-witted, in that it would hold onto the gears for a long time, or that it would work the torque converter a lot rather than locking into gear in the low gears (I know this is by design, but it was excessive) As the video above is well detailed, I won't go into detail myself. The only thing I done different was an additional sump dump. 4 in total, rather than the 3 in the video. I also held it in the gears a little longer than 10 seconds each. Thought it would encourage the oil to mix a little more. Done at my own risk though, as technically you are overfilling the gearbox while doing the sump dumps. Now the work is done, the difference in the gearchanges is astonishing! It now changes gear faster, and locks into the lower gears allowing to use the torque of the engine more efficiently. Car feels a lot quicker because of this. I Highly recommend this to anyone who hasn't changed the gearbox oil in their TF-80SC boxes. As he done in the video, I sampled the oil on each sump dump. You can view the photos here: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Y8JWXSQe8RuiHSa88 I hope this is useful for people in the future, to breath a bit of life into their aging Volvo.

Pleased your happy with it - however I would advise anyone doing this procedure to drive the car about 10 miles between the sump dumps. Putting the car into gear whilst stationary will not disturb the fluid much that is in the final drive housing.

Thanks Tannaton.
Is there any risk of damaging the gearbox while it has the full 4l container of oil in without levelling it off before the 10 minute drive, or would you level it off each time then go for a 10 minute drive?

I dont think so, but if there is way too much it might start blowing it out through the breather or seals. I generally measure what comes out and put the same amount back in.
