Default Drivers side seatbelt locking?

My seatbelt has started locking for no reason as you pull it out, and often at the same point. It does usually (eventually) let me have it but it's a major annoyance.
I know (or believe) it's a relatively simple job to replace it but before I do, is this a common occurance? Is it worth buying new or would a second hand one be ok and not potentially have the same problem?

Do you mean the belt cannot be pulled out to a longer extension to fit around you?
OR
Do you mean the buckle jams and can't be undone to take it off?

If the former, what if you pull it slowly and gently - does that make a difference?

In any case, I would have thought that a second hand one from a breaker would be fine - ideally test it before you remove it from the donor car (or get the scrappy to do that and warrant it)

Cheers

Dave
