HELP - SC-805 Radio/Cassette/CD advice
Hi All,
My T-5R has an SC-805 fitted and the radio has gone duff. I have been kindly donated a fully working SC-805 which has a grey faceplate and knobs and so does not match the car. The original unit is black and has "Premium Sound System" in yellow italic script along the top of the faceplate. So thinks I - swap the knobs and faceplates over as per Robert video on YouTube. The original black faceplate popped off fine. It has no electrical attachments to the main unit and just clips into place. However, the grey unit, whilst having an identical external button layout has a somewhat different internal design. There is attached circuitry on a plate affixed to the inner side of the faceplate and a ribbon wire leading from the faceplate to the main unit. This ribbon wire appears to be hard soldered in. I'm assuming that this grey unit is a later version of the 805. Has anyone managed to make an early faceplate fit this later 805 iteration in some way? I've got the grey one installed in the car again and it works well but that colour is just totally bugging me! Thanks John

Dunno, never tried, but when yoou're done the aux input mod is worth doing. It's listed on here somewhere. Beats the Yatour etc thingy, and is cheaper.

The black face plate and premium sound script was fitted to the P80 cars. The grey faceplate units were fitted to the S/V40 range.

Our 1997 S90 has the black faceplate version, and our 1998 S70 has the grey faceplate version, and although at first sight they're identical, as you've found, once you take them apart they are quite different, exactly as you describe.
The black Premium Sound versions are as rare as hens teeth, whereas the grey ones, which were fitted to the P80 S/C and V70 cars are much more plentiful. Hope that's a bit helpful! Jack |
