Thanks for your reply, although not familiar with led lights & xenon etc I'm aware of side marker lights from previous much older Volvos I've owned. On my V60 the side marker lights act as parking lights, that is the appropriate tail lights and number plate light come on and the front orange side maker lights come on, is this correct?

Agreed the side marker lights are not very bright in daylight or even overcast light but tbh I've not looked at them in the dark . Unfortunately, I can't open the attachment, v bulletin refers me to the administrators, possibly because I've not done many posts and still a "newbie"! I'm not unduly worried about it but I've always liked things to work if they're meant to work, but I'm certainly not going to loads of money out just to get them working.
I perhaps should have mentioned its a 2012 plate model

These lights are the daytime running lights and front position marker lights they should come on when the ignition is switched on and during daylight should be at their brightest and are then dimmed when the main lights are on .
On later cars they are lower down and further out
Hope this helps

May be useful.
Thanks, it's clear that the lights I've been referring to are lit in the photos attached, but on my V60 they don't light up. Perhaps there is a fuse somewhere or they're just for show on my model. Everything else on mine "seems" fine .

Thanks, on mine both are out but all other lights are fine, either a fuse (possibly) or not connected/no power, highly unlikely both have gone.

There are quite a few previous posts on these lights which you may find helpful.

Hi I am not sure which fuse these light use , so can't help you there but I would check for power at the lights first , and it is possible that both have failed , led lights are not always as good as we are led ! to believe .
The other thing is at mot time it could be if they are fitted they have to work!

The problem is that access doesn't look good, no surprise there on modern cars, also I'm not as nimble/flexible as I used to be, so unless it's an easy fix I'll have to take a chance come MOT time in March . I don't mind messing with electrics on my classic cars but moderns with ecu's, canbus, bcm's etc too much to upset there lol. If I mess it up my wife will kill me

As per the thread link I put in Post 6 and MikeGMT reposted in post 15, there appears to be two solutions found so far,(not to say either will work for you).
The first you seem to have ruled out, as you say all bulbs in the main headlight unit (including the 'position' light) are working, the other appears to be a bit more involved but does sound doable if you're happy working on cars and have the time.

Post 15 from the thread link:
"After removing the bumper and disconnecting the large connector near the drivers side wheel I realised the fault lay with the large connector as the ground and wiring was 100% ok.
After pulling the connector apart and cleaning it with electrical cleaning spray I put the bumper back on and now they work perfectly.
Access to the large connector is much easier via the front drivers wheel arch. Just remove the 4 screws, pull back the inner mud guard."

If nothing else, it's something to try if you do get stuck at MOT time.

Might be worth just lifting the headlamps out , this may give you a little access to the back of these lamps to check connectors etc

I'll have a go at pulling the wheel arch liner back to clean the multi connector, it must still get damp and dirty where it is. Taking the bumper off I think I'll leave that to the experts, not the time of year for doing that outside plus I'll have to find the "how to".
Firstly I'll double check the lights tonight as I've got to go out.

Martyn

Many thanks for all the advice from everyone
