Engine: B8444S: 2007 XC90 4.4 V8 Gearbox issue at 1700 RPM?

The above article suggests is the SL (lockup) solenoid,

It is very likely the torque converter (TQC) - I loaded up the TCM in Vida and had a friend read it off while driving, and the shudder only occurs when the TQC is in "slip" mode. When the SL solenoid is around 600mA. The shudder does not occur when the TQC is fully locked or fully unlocked. I added ShudderFixx and there was no change. There are no codes outside the regular audio system\bulbs\tire sensors stuff. I flushed the trans a year\10,000 miles ago.

My 'shudder' was concerning as always happened at same speed, no matter what acceleration. I had recently replaced angle gear and spline drive, so I initially thought it could be prop shaft related.

It happened in the middle of a long journey (800 miles) with five adults.

The error codes did not start at first but dropped into limp with 'transmisdion service' required'. This was after about 3/4 of journey. I stopped for a break and the error msg erased and then normal operation for about 50 miles and again it happened. It happened more frequently after that and even on a short journey. I have a atreach of road of about 3 miles with 50mph limit. It started to fault as soon as I reached about 50.But, as I said, it was accompanied by coolant loss.

Mine had a 'gibbons' flush. I have had no further gearbox related issues for at lease the last two years and covered about 15,000 miles since.

Mine is d5 my 2003 with close to 180k so lets keep hoping!

I may try this once I gathered enough info.

Do any of you have any comments on the above?
New Oil, cleaning filters pumps etc.
Checking module (I'll exchange it with my other identical car to see the difference)
Check for Radiation fluid in the oil.

Their Advice was:
Unplug the Haldex ECU or remove the fuse for the 4wd.

If it still does the driving shudder fault, then 100% it is NOT a haldex/4wd related issue.

Which I did and could not recreate shudder nor did it return at first on return. Perhaps it reset the ECU . ..

Guys the fact is one of the main reasons Volvo discontinued the V8 is because this motor places way too much strain on the rest of the drive train in this vehicle. Transmission failures or the development of "issues" with the transmission will virtually be a guarantee for any for the V8's once they hit 100000km/60000miles. I've driven 3 different V8's now and they all suffer from the same transmission problems. This motor is a brute and as great as it is to drive,it sure doesn't extend any courtesies to its drive train friends. And yes I know, plenty will disagree with me.

This is a post - Sadly no matter which way one looks at it the V8 power and this transmission mix maybe not the best match.

I wonder if their is perhaps another way around it?

Well, this forum and the three other most active English language XC90 forums have 2 types of transmission trouble reports:

1. Lots of T6 tranny failures and...
2. Fewer but not an inconsequential number of V8 tranny failures

I've not seen a single tranny failure complaint on the 2.5T and only one unconfirmed complaint on the 3.2.

When I was shopping for our XC90, I looked at 3 V8s, and two of them had new transmissions. The dealer we ended up purchasing ours from (and had shown us one of the 3 V8s) admitted upon questioning that they had seen several of their V8s come back with transmission trouble. Nothing on the order of the T6, but noticeable nonetheless.

It's definitely not scientific, but there's smoke here. Could just be that they need fluid changes more often than they've been getting them en masse.

You should not confuse the T6 transmission failures, its a totally different gearbox and from the reports it was a botched General Motors transplant unsuitable for the T6 marriage, some owners have been very lucky and others sadly not, but IMO you cant compare the failures of the T6 transmission with other XC90 .... totally different gearbox.
