Hi all is it me or are there a distinct lack of P80 Volvo's on the forum. I do not mean the T5 or R models but just your more common models or is it most have now gone i must say that whilst i am out most days with my S70 or C70 its very rare to see them any thoughts.

I can't remember the last time I saw a C70 out in the wild.

I know a chap with a beautiful 40k mile C70, 53 plate IIRC, the 2.4(?) LPT. Its mainly a summer toy, a beautiful car. He does get out and about it in.

Our 1998 S70 is now at 220,000 miles and still going strong. To be seen in and around York most days!

I've got a P80 but I hardly ever post about it for some reason. Owned it for nearly a year now. Bought it off an older gent not to far from me, he couldnt drive it anymore for physical reasons and had bought a taller Renault Crossover thing.

I use it as my 'backup' vehicle so doesnt get driven much compared to my D5. Its an auto so I will take it out instead of the D5 if I'm going somewhere with lots of stop start traffic. And occiasionally also to hear the sound of that naturally aspirated straight 5 when it hits 6,000rpm, its fantastic.

Its not a car for a mainstream audience thats for sure...its too big, too old fashioned etc.

I also wonder, at 32, whether I'm the youngest P80 owner on the forum?

For the first two years I owned it my P80 was my daily driver then for six months it shared such duties with a 960 saloon I bought. The six months after that it spent as my step daughters daily driver before returning to me for a year and resuming part time daily duties with the 960.The following year[until about two weeks ago]it was once again my step daughters daily chariot. It has now once again returned to me[step daughter has bought a "Y" reg C70 2.4 lpt in Saffron as her daily hack]to resume duties alongside the 960.Both the P80 and 960 live at the side of the road 24/7.

Well Monty.. I don't get on the forum so much these days, but heh I'm here today, saw your thread so thought I'd give you a quick reply.

I bought my trusty old P80 1998 V70 Tdi CD in 2008 and she's still in daily use. I've had the odd mishap like blowing up engines etc.. but got over those, and despite a few niggles over the years she's got 275k on the clock now and still going strong.

According to How Many Left , mines one of 26 licenced and there are 21 on the road.

All the best.. Dave

I've noticed too.
I can go a month without seeing another cooking-grade P80. Look to buy one in the usual places and a good deal of the survivors are the go-faster variants. It's happened in the last 2-3 years.

I use mine as a high-miler daily. One of my favourite Volvo haunts is 'Lakes in Wyboston', Barry's yard is starting to fill with P2s. P80s are thin on the ground, even in breaker's yards.

You have to be close, and if stereotypes exist, and I believe they do, clearly you've not been doing it right.... why do you not witter on about a big-brake kit, tracks days and drug-dealer tints to your windows? You really are a shower... Ahem;

Nobody dare question your ability to spot mediocrity standing waist deep in grey mist. It's obvious that you suffer from Goldilock's Syndrome. Most everything in your life need only be just right for everything to be hunky-f***ing-dory. You greatly annoy people who want to suggest many more interesting alternatives that are slightly better in some areas but worse in others. How dare you want something that just works forever for minimal cost.

..HAVE AN 850R/V70R YOU @*nt!

The TDI variants are even rarer. They are now dropping off a cliff!

I have smashed my 1998 TDI and still pondering weather to have it straightened. It has only got 125000 miles and starts instantly, even if laid up for several weeks.

The 850 TDI is an even rarer beast now too. I have one as my daily driver and have done for the last 13 years. It has just got through another MOT, so should be good for a while longer yet!

I used to have a volvo amazon as my daily driver when i was in my 30's, in fact i have had several amazons that i used to play with. Unfortunately they are just too rare and expensive to have as a daily driver these days, that's why i have the 850 and V70. Cheap, reliable and economical as a diesel! The only trouble is, they are difficult to replace like for like anymore.
