Default Ipod Alternative ? No sound from mine

I've got a 2019 S60 with B&W sound. My ipod nano 5 worked absolutely fine until yesterday, no updates or anything done. You can see all the libraries, artwork, skip tracks etc, it's just not giving sound, almost like it's muted. I've changed cable, factory reset all the setting, still the same. The B&W works fine for every other source, ie DAB, carplay

I could try to buy a more modern ipod but think i might get the same as it's not a connection issue, what are others using for music from iTunes? or better still got any idea why the ipod stopped working.

I donlt want to be plugging my phone on every journey, the slim ipod stays permanently connected in the car

Dumb question, but have you checked all the iPod's functionality OUT of the car (e.g. with headphones). Does sound perhaps more likely to be an iPod issue than a car issue.

Yes, it was an ipod issue not the car. The iPod worked fine with headphones and more importantly with a dock.

I fixed it by doing a full wipe and reinstall, that worked, very odd as it all connected fine and displayed as it should be working. Never had that issue before with an ipod, had it working in my Lexus without hitch for 5 years, good solution for me, sound quality is acceptable and easy to use with itunes

Hmm - if it worked fine out of the car that does not suggest an iPod issue. But I assume you do not use the headphone output to connect to the car. So maybe it was the Apple connector, which suggests a combined car/iPod issue or an iPod issue that was fixed when you rehooked it to your PC to refresh it.

Glad it is fixed, though. I use an old iPod Touch in the same way - lives permanently in the car. I've had one or two issues with the car not controlling the iPod properly - usually fixed just by unplugging/replugging the USB plug. Though mine does come out avery few weeks to refresh playlists, so maybe that also helps forestall any issues.

I was disappointed that the iPod I bought in 2010 did not work with the 2020 Volvo.

As a percentage of the upgrade cost for the latest Volvo the cost of a new iPod was trivial - almost the cheapest Apple upgrade ever....

But... it's just a music player. Why on earth does a Volvo give a hoot about how old it is or what version of software it has?

So, when you say 'did not work' were you just sticking it in a USB socket and trying to use it as a music player or something more ... modern?
