Default rear boot liners

I've got the chance to get one of those plastic boot liners, for £75 , one of the solid plastic ones, with moulded upstands, and XC 70 embossed on it. Now the $64,000 question is are they useful. I know what they are for, but I mean are they a hassle when you want to carry something long at short notice, ie when you are out. I'm thinking you have to take it out, fold down seat, put object in, then try to fit tray in as well. Anyone here got one? how do you find it?

Ok, decided against it. I fancy making one out of aluminium, in 2 sections, so that one slides inside the other, and extends forwards, towards front seats, when rear seats are dropped. Would have side up stands, and a front upstand. Now where to get some sheet off it’s approx 1800x 1000x 2no

Very good idea. Please keep us updated on the build.

I see you've decided against it. I'd have recommended getting one. I keep one of those permanently in my car and with the rear seats permanently down. Unless long things are really heavy it is not a problem, the rubber/plastic (or whatever the liner is made of) is fairly forgiving, and there's always the option to support a long thing with assorted other stuff lurking in the car if really necessary.

For dirty stuff that needs the whole load area, as I posted elsewhere here the other day, I uses a box-shaped liner from a P1 V70 and that goes in over the rear seats sitting snugly against the back of the front seats and the shaped one goes in very precisely behind it to cover the whole area - albeit with a small 'wall' between the load areas. Works very well for me.

I can see the attraction of a tailored, sliding/expanding liner though. Not sure how much materials will cost you but someone recently mentioned this place who do a very similar design.

I have a shallow one from I think a Seat my sister gave me. It's really really useful - I love it. Helps so much with dump runs, and keeping the car clean. Hose it off or scrub it with the jet washer and it's good to go again. I also use it to work on the car/other cars. Good big clean area to lie on and also helps keep all screws/parts to hand.

Mine doesn't fit the boot contours at all - but it's a similar width and is a little short too of the full floor but still very useful.

I had one of the Volvo Accessory boot liners. Covers the boot floor, back of the seats, up to the window line and even a flap that can cover the boot sill. Was in my first Volvo V70. If I knew I was going to get another one (I had a SEAT Leon inbetween) I would have kept it. Was great for tip runs, diy trips, putting bikes in the boot. Washed down pretty easy.

Thing I would note. Something like described above. You tend not to use the underboot storage area (well access it as much). Nor the flip up boot divider. Now I don't have the boot liner, I am always using the flip up boot divider when shopping. Putting the stretch elastic band around bags to stop them flying everywhere.

Well, managed to pick a boot liner up fairly close to me for £45. Its the solid one, with upstands and XC70 embossed on it. Well chuffed, as I figured I only have to have a tin of paint tip over , or something else, and the resulting mess would cost considerably more than £45.

I opted for a heavy rubber fitted mat covering the load area but not the seat backs when dropped. It's a compromise but it rolls back and allows me to use the shopping space or access the under floor storage without having to remove it from the car.

When we do shopping, we use those big Lidl / Aldi bags x 3 or 4, so far too much for the little storage area. If we only want that much , we walk. I thought about a roll out mat as well, but specially wanted the semi bund arrangement, that would stop spillages seeping down to lower levels. If I can find some cheap alluminium sheet, I will still make the sliding jobby, but I have a wee job next week , painting one of our houses ready for new tenants, so any spillages will be dealt with, by the new lininng.

Ah! Why all this talk of spillages? Well, I know myself very well by now.
