It wouldn’t concern me, just clean it all up and it will be fine.

Thank you. Really kind of you all to reply and comment. The exhaust turned out to be a non issue. There is a delayed service, gap in between two, but the dealer agreed to service the car and I will take it to Volvo for a little tlc. They tried selling me Gaurdx....but I read here that McGuire does a job well, I have a mate who has a mate who is a detailer, so might get him to look at it for further tcl.

There was minor drama when I wanted to make sure it had all the Intelisafe Pro features and the sales rep and I couldnt find Pilot Assist. Thank goodness his manager was apparently a ex Volvo dealer chap and he took me for a second test ride to demo it. Didnt realise you have to click the belts and be in drive to get the option. Felt good to see the green steering wheel on display. And although not the best demo on a A road it did drive itself for a while....my first such experience. Secretly, I got this as I cannot afford a Telsa haha....

Anyways, looking forward to contributing here more....

Welcome to the XC90 D5 World. Just back to Norfolk today after a week in W Sussex. Towed our 2000kg caravan 190 miles home with no dramas at all. My 4 year lease is up in March and I am seriously considering a replacement XC90 as I have been so pleased with this one. Had a 2014 V6 Touareg before this and the xc90 tows better.

Default Update

Couple of months in and a 2 week trip up and down Cornwall later I am still pleased with the choice. Engine light has come on so needs a trip into the dealer (Wayland in Reading, pants). Got an extended warranty so not worried but.... For the positives - 1. Smoother to driver compared to my Hyundai Santa Fe, 2. The engine didn’t sound as ‘trucky’ as I was expecting, 3. It is speedy for a 2 litre (I was thinking of T8 for 400bhp fun) and gives me enough to keep me happy, it’s main job is to lug family around and not shoot out of a cave like a bat, 4. Space - loads of space and paddle board, body boards, bags and all short of holiday **** went smoothly to Cornwall and back, 5. The pilot - loved it, it practically drove itself to edge of M5 and back.....The cons - there is a lag after putting foot down and the car moving...makes me nervous over taker, polestar upgrade could help??!! 2. Bulk, the Santa Fe, bless it for going for 10 odd years, is 7 seater of the perfect proportion as a everyday car....maybe a XC60 with 7 seats would work for us!!!! 3. Sensus was ok in the end but I would prefer few old style knobs or maybe I will get used to sensing.. that’s it!!!!!

Oh wait...100 % get CarPlay and I didn’t see the point of a pano roof, was fun to open and close few times but now has stayed shut as last two weeks it was very hot and it nearly cooked my kids

Very interested in seeing how you get on with this. I dance one of these or a V90. I had a T6 XC90 for three weeks as a rental in California three years ago; it was terrific once I’d figured out the basic controls.

What bothers me is the potential for it to go wrong in a massively costly way. I trust new car and manufacturer extended warranties to pay out without quibble, but I was badly bitten with a warranty claim which failed to cover consequential damage when a turbo ran away on a six year old, 110k car I’d owned from 1 year /10k miles which killed the engine. They’d cover the a turbo, but not the damage to the engine.

I can fix pretty much everything on my XC70 (not that I’ve needed to do much) and the spares are easily available and cheap; some of the spares prices on the newer models (eg headlights) are more than I’ve paid for most of the cars I’ve ever owned.

The lag in performance you’re experiencing might be the power pulse hose - have a search on here, you’ll find a few people have had problems.

Alarming advisory on the car at the first service at Volvo. Few amber advisory but 3 bigger issues have showed up. 1. Turbo issue in a smaller Turbo, 2. Exhaust leakage, 3. Oil leak. Waiting to see how much it all costs but the Turbo bit alone I was told could be around 2k including labour.

It’s a gamble when you get a car but let’s now see how the extended warranty that Big Motor World sold to me holds up.

It’s only been a month since I got the car and thus really unhappy that this wasn’t picked up on their 140 points check!!! Now cars can go wrong so it’s one of those things and if the warranty covers it then happy days!

However, I will look into independent Volvo technicians for second opinion especially on the Turbo, which the main dealer (Wayland) said that they suspect but can’t confirm unless they get to it.

Fingers crossed!

And this is precisely why I'm in the process of prepping my car for sale - extended warranty expires in 3 months and this is not a car I would be happy running out of warranty. Time to move on to something with seats a bit more comfortable than these (for me) horrendous Volvo efforts

Update and question :

Volvo dealer in Reading (Wayland) has said that the engine light and my perceived feeling that there was a lag when I put my foot down points to a Turbo issue. Quoted 4K now to fix it!!! However, the engine light since getting car back from the service has gone away...I went for a long drive and the lag I had noticed previously isn’t there. I will drive it around for a while and get a second opinion from a different garage if the light comes back on.

Is my wait and watch approach sensible or should I be going to the bottom of this now?? Thanks
