Default V8 !!

I recently saw an ad for an XC90 4.4 V8 Executive.

Never heard of one of these before ( I assume it was originally specced for US of Middle Eastern markets?)

It got me thinking - the only thing that put me off my old xc90 was it's lack of power ( 2.4 in lowest tuning spec) - so could I live with an xc again if it had a proper engine???

Errrrr, yep. Definitely! ( In spite of ridiculous tax/insurance prices and mpg in the teens)

So........how rare are these beasts?
Are they reliable, or basket cases & how is parts availability??
Does anyone here have one or previously owned one ?

If I remember rightly the engine was developed by Yamaha. Also the nose of the V8 is slightly shorter, something to do with Volvo not wanting the Ford V8 put in during Volvo's time with Ford. I was tempted to go for one a few years back.

There is a huge amount of V8 XC90s in the USA, have a look at tapatalk Volvo. Loads of V8 activity there, they'll tell you everything you want and don't want to know

There are power boats with 4 x 650 bhp Volvo V8 engines in the 4 outboards across the back 😎

I will have one for sale in the next few weeks. Lpg converted ect..... Will need a gearbox output sensor though and would recommend a new harness too.

The only bad thing about the engine is the Ballance shaft and the rocker cover gaskets leaking... They sound cracking and do fairly shift..... I've had a few Subaru's ect and I'm sure they would keep up with some of them.

Thanks guys.

I am really tempted by an xc90 v8.
I'll have to get some insc quotes first as my last big engined car ( Merc CLK 500 AMG ) was over £2000 per year - can't imagine the Volvo being much cheaper.

I rarely use autotrader - I hate the way the site works, and from experience, much of what's there is massively overpriced and/or tarted up bodge-jobs.

Default V8 Fuel MPG

I have one.
Prepare for a large fuel bill.
The accelerator is very sensitive and often drops a gear, plenty of power.
But its really uses alot of fuel.

I should have bought a 3.2L Engine it has enough power compared to 2.9.

Consider this those 3.2L Engines are extremely reliable unlike 2.9L
