Don't worry Boatie I wasn't suggesting that it was you saying it.

Re installing LEDs causing canbus (?) errors, i would have thought adding LED strips under the bumper wouldn't do this, as its adding very little extra load to the existing bulbs which would still be in place.

I did a bit of research in to this recently..

The lamps used are tiny little H6W - the same as BMW use as side lights in some of their cars. After a bit of searching around I found these bulbs that fit and are made with CREE LEDs, so allegedly 60% brighter than normal LED bulbs.

They were a little tight to get in to the holders but with a little perseverance they went in and, despite being larger than the lamps that came out, fitted in to the light cluster without issue. Only just fitted them so don't know what they're like at night, but there's a definite colour difference visible in the daytime - it's certainly much more obvious in person than it is in the photo. Also, no bulb warnings yet, but I only had the engine going long enough to check they were working and the colour so that may change. In the photo below I've changed the offside lamp but not the nearside (apologies for the state of the car, had a trip to hospital yesterday so she's a bit dirty).

Quick update for you all.

Didn't get to use the car last night so still no idea how bright the lights are, but took her out this morning and found that the can bus alarmed out pretty much straightaway stating that there's a fault with the reversing lights. A single press on the steering wheel button clears the warning and it doesn't come back on, but I'll wait and see how bright the lights are before deciding if I want to put up with the warning or if I'm better off changing the bulbs back to standard.

I had the same problem with My S60, LED backup warning lights. Looking for a solution I initially went down the contact less CAN Bus connector route. COVID-19 and Brexit put a stop to this as the supplier had resource problems.
After more investigating I discovered the backend lighting ECU which lives in the RH rear light enclosure together with the light cluster also supplies the LH cluster with real wires. I tapped the backing up warning feed orange-yellow wire and connected it to a solid-state relay via a 2KΩ resistor to limit the current to 1.9mA, I guessed this would be safe. The output side or the relay derives its battery feed from the back of the boot auxiliary power socket.

The relay and resistor were housed in a standard IP67 box.

If you are copying this installation, make sure you get the right orange-yellow wire as there is one going to the front of the car and one to the towbar connector which is dead. Also, the 2KΩ resistor is dependent on the make of relay so check the value to use from the data sheet. As a precaution use 2 separate earth connections to prevent a back-door circuit if one fails. Make sure you use a decent reversing light bar. There is plenty of rubbish coming out of China on eBay. I used a Maypole 36w, 2520lm which has an IP67 rating.
I tried posting an article with photos on this site but was blocked right at the end. Give me your Email address and I will send it to you.

I just want to kick some life back into this thread and ask St Evelyn how the new LED bulbs turned out? Brighter? Better? Worth the start-up message which is easily cancelled?

So many questions, I know, but the evenings are dark now and I should really get around to changing them. (Now to find a way of digging St Evelyn in the ribs to get his attention, I'll be gentle)

Does anyone else have experience of switching the useless Volvo bulbs with LED/CREE bulbs?

On reflection, I don't think that the link that I, and St Evelyn, posted is the correct one. If anyone knows better then please say but I believe the bulbs for my MY19 V90CC are H21W for which the correct link is below though this company do have differing versions:-

LED H21W

They say that they have strong/100% CANBUS compatibility but that is a bold claim. Reading reviews elsewhere for the myriad of versions of this bulb suggest that they will still throw up messages.

Aren't those indicator bulbs? It says amber.

Doh! It shouldn't do as I spotted that I had added a link for amber bulbs but due to the idiosyncrasies of this forum I can't now change it. This is the only forum I know that doesn't allow you to edit a post at a later date.
This is the link that I wanted to change it to but there are other sellers selling their own versions. Personally, I am of the opinion that they all hail from the Far East.
