740 sunvisors and middle fittings
Hi all,
My wife’s new 740 estate has no sunvisors, presumably because the headlining has been remade at some point and the visors not being refitted, bizarrely. Does anyone have a pair for sale including the middle fittings that bolt in near the rear view mirror? Black would be ideal to match the remainder of the interior, but we would consider other colours rather than be blinded by the low winter sun! Many thanks Phil

There are two different mounting styles which you will have to be aware of, they aren't interchangeable as it will leave a gap and the sun visor won't close properly.

As far as I am aware the colour choice is beige, beige or beige! You could spray them though.
As Luke says ^^^ there are two different lengths of roof fitting for the visors. They are not interchangeable. A deeper one for cars with a metal sun roof and a more shallower one for cars without. Bob |

I should have a set from a sunroof model. They are beige, my plan was to do the roof cloth black and get them painted / covered. That was nearly ten years ago and still hasn't happened. If I find them I'll be in touch.

Thanks guys! The car doesn’t have a sunroof, it’s an ‘88 GL if that helps…how do the mounting styles differ? I’m not sure if I have experience in which is which.
It has the mounting parts on the outside/by the doors which appear to have holes for the hinge bar to push into, but the inside area by the mirror doesn’t have any mounts at all. Feeling under the fabric there seems to be a rectangular recess each side where presumably the inner clip style mount would bolt. A poor description I know, but hopefully it explains what I mean!

I'll have a root around in my garage tomorrow and see what I come up with. Watch this sace and I'll also see if I have a couple of photos.
They are handed and I am pretty sure I only have sunroof visors. I had a spell of the non-sunroof ones snapping as they get very brittle and the plastic tends to split at the hidden base in the roof. They also don't like it if you try to twist the visor across the driver's door window at the wrong angle whilst driving!! Bob |

I have only found broken sunvisors for 700 Series without metal sunroof and the trim cover that goes around the rear view mirror.
Below are a couple of photos showing the two different types of roof fittings. You might think that the deeper metal roof one would fit if you reduce the height. Unfortunately the two fixing 'tubes' are hollow and if you reduced their height there is nothing to hold the fixing screws. Due to the method of construction It is impossible to remove the visor from the roof fixing part as they are pressed together in the now very brittle plastic. The mirror trim is difficult to fit and remove (it slides to the rear of the car) without snapping the two small plastic tangs as the photo shows. Hope this is some help. Bob |
