Judging by the bulkier design I'm guessing they could be for an XC, but who knows, I'm just chuffed I have a matching pair of the sleeker design ones.

Unfortunately I couldn't swap the front brake discs and pads around, the donor has 286mm diameter discs and mine has 305mm ones fitted, which is a shame but then again without proper tools wouldn't be able to tell for definite if the donor discs were warped as well.

Today, weather permitting, I was going to swap over the drivers door and passengers front wing. I'm pretty good with replacing the doors now so that should be quite a quick job, and I've seen a thread on here concerning removing the wing and it doesn't look a particularly tough job to do, and then that should be it as far as harvesting goes.

Got my mechanic mate coming over as well, just to see what sort of state the mechanical side of the car is in and see if there is anything that can be done to resurrect the car. It has the 2.4 diesel lump in it that does run, and heard it is quite a sought after engine, and having done only 74k miles, seems a shame to send off to the scrappy. When bought I was told it needed a main engine oil seal, new dual mass fly wheel, new clutch and new clutch slave cylinder, although when I moved it off the transport trailer and parked it up, the engine sounded fine and clutch operation seemed ok too. After some thought, stripping it and storing parts isn't really an option so it will probably have to go as a whole.

i think people do the larger brake caliper / disc swap sometimes, you just need more of the parts like the caliper carrier changes over as well, and the caliper which means disconnecting brake lines etc etc

and then do they fit under your wheels? probably.. I dunno. but I've read about people doing it for sure

if you post up a load of pics and info you never know, someone here might come and take it off you to harvest the bits they need and they might have space to break it? or they can move it on again to someone else or the scrappy

Interesting info, thanks for that Stuart.

I've done many a brake caliper, disc and pad change in my time so I'm pretty clued up on that side of car maintainence. I'm sure the brake discs, pads, calipers, etc will fit. The donor car has 16" wheels whereas mine has 17" ones. maybe I'll look into it a bit more. My only concern is on my discs, where the brake disc hub meets the pad friction surface, I have vents all around, whereas the donor car is solid. I've been looking at prices for the 305mm discs, with those vents I mentioned, and they generally are pricier than the 286mm non vented discs. Perhaps I'll search, or even start another thread asking about this specific query.

As for stripping the donor car itself, I have already put a thread on offering it to you guys on this forum first. I'll see what response I get.

i'm getting muddled up on this one, just realised you already have the 305's and donors are smaller (?)

anyway i think the conversion people do is the larger (316mm or 336mm?) XC brakes which is probably more worth the effort for the faster cars with the larger wheels

either way really I suppose it's a case of is it really necessary, I've got the smallest ones on mine and they're WAY more than capable enough for my requirements even when fully loaded up. then again mine isn't turbo'd

Yep, mine are 305mm and donors are 286mm.

I'm not into driving like a madman, much prefer cruising at a steady pace nowadays, guess that's what comes of being nearly 50 It'll just save me around £100 if I could swap them around. Read a few threads on here and it looks like that the only thing I need to change are the carriers. If that be the case then it would only mean disc and pad changeover, but I think I'll play it safe and mention what I want to do on here.
