Default High main dealer servicing cost for 2014 V60 D4 R-Design

Morning all. Thought I’d share some info from yesterday when booking my V60 in for a full service at a Volvo main dealer in the South. The car is on 79k miles and eight years old so requires a full service. Volvo wanted £550 for the service, plus £35 for a loan car for the day. I called a Volvo specialist in Worcestershire, who my partner used last year for the service on her 2016 V40, and using genuine Volvo parts and the same software updates, the price from him was £362, including collection of the car and return to my house 1 hour from his service centre. The service he provided for the V40 was excellent so seeing as the car is out of warranty it seems absolutely pointless going to the main dealer. Definitely worth looking elsewhere if your Volvo is out of warranty. Thanks.

Some Indys are good but some do use very cheap parts ( they say OEM ) I now service my V70 myself as you can buy all the genuine Volvo filters online ( Mill Volvo ) for around £100.00

The filters I removed which were fitted by a very reputable local Indy ( my back was out at the time ) were cheap rubbish ! The cabin filter was like a sheet of kitchen roll and nowhere near the quality of Volvo / Mann genuine filter. I noticed a significant increase in outdoor odours in the cabin. Fuel filter the same.

So whilst it can be a lot cheaper don't assume the parts are always of good quality

Yep they are quoting me over £1,500 for a 3 year plan for services 8,9 & 10 and it excludes the belts. They said this will save me money because prices are fixed at today's rates so won't increase over next 3 years but my last service 7 was £320 just a fortnight ago????

Sounds like b0110ck5 to me. I'll get a price when the service is due and if they take the p155 I'll just go elsewhere or do it myself.

I just don't think they are really that interested in servicing cars beyond a few years old these days. Sad but true.

All parts from the specialist were checked as OEM.

I've had the same approach to a series of Audis and Skodas before my Volvo. If you put the time in to find the good specialists who will fit genuine parts, then it's a no brainer if it's out of warranty, even if it means driving a bit further.

Actually our Skoda last went to an independent, non franchise authorised repairer, who updates Skoda service history etc, but they are few and far between.

They are often more experienced with anything out of warranty due to staff turnover.

Also bear in mind main dealer labour rates are probably north of £120.00 per hour. Smaller Indys will be half that

A good friend of mine had a pretty expensive service plan at an Audi main dealer. She eventually got fed up and took the car to my friend who has a small local garage. He said the only filter that had ever been changed in six years was the oil filter !! The fuel filter and cabin filter were absolutely filthy ! Exactly the same thing happened to my son with his Vauxhall ! That was also main dealer

I paid £570 at Holden's for the same service expensive yes but for me it's peace of mind that its been done properly and they have always been brilliant with me, car always done on time, communication etc. so I don't mind paying the extra

My V60CC D4 is booked in for it's 4th service next month at a cost of £575 +£45 for the MOT.

I think this is high and I could find an independant or even do it myself for less.

For what maybe a £200saving I will stick with the main dealer. They will upload all the software for updates. They even send me a video inspection underneath

I think a main dealer service history adds value to the car which helps if I decide to sell or change it.
