Exhaust options

OK, cracked downpipe and middle silencer support arm gone (yes, those two are effect and cause) so time for a *full exhaust replacement*...

N/a b200e auto, so I"m not looking at sportz zorsts....
Can I have your opinions on options? Stainless or otherwise.

Stainless: Options seem to be Fitters like Powerflow (haven't got a quote yet), classicswede (if he still makes them) or Ferrita (have contacts in Köping). Would prefer to fit myself.

Non stainless, OEM Volvo obvs, Simonz sport full kit or any combination of aftermarket downpipes & exhaust kit.

Any I've missed? Any recommendations? Going to want to get it on within a couple of.weeks, and can't travel too far from East London with a farty pipe.

Just seen this thread, and yes makes sense, but I did see a thread a few days ago from a member who had placed order with Classic Swede and had to do a card chargeback as not arrived, and was having a bit of a mare.

I'll see if I can find the thread and post link here in a moment.

Called today to confirm stock and the man answered immediately. If he hadn't I'd have tried later... and I wouldn't expect a prompt email reply either.
The two websites is a bit of a red herring, think of it as two halves of the same site... Prevoius orders have been fine, not prompt and not announced with a flurry of emails, but what I ordered.

If I wanted customer service and a modern internet retail experience, I'd go elsewhere. If his exhausts are as good as others on this board make out, I'd happily order by cheque in the mail. Like we used to.

These exhaust kits should still be available from your volvo dealer.

They are, and an OEM.volvo exhaust kit + downpipe wasn't unattractively priced, but the irresistable lure of shiny things meant that an affordable stainless system was first choice.

Volvo OEM is way cheaper if you order the whole kit rather than individual parts. £170+vat (FRF price £132+vat when I bought a year ago). that is everything downpipe-back including rubbers and U bolts. Excl delivery. Excluding downpipe to be clear, as they tend not to go.

There are two kits apparently - French and Swedish, the French one not being as good. Fitting takes a little bit of fettling (gum gum) to seal properly. Again, apparently, they're not as good as they were in-the-day.

That is interesting. It always seems pointless (to me) fitting a stainless steel exhaust to a motor car that is already 30 years old; is the owner really trying to make it last until it is 60 at that point?

I suppose the real allure of a stainless steel exhaust is aesthetics. That is something that doesn't bother me so much, but if it did I might tend to spend the £400 on something that will be seen rather than underneath the motor car. A very shiny exhaust system might then be a good excuse to fit some LED under-car lighting that might be controlled by one's iPhone :-).

I'd agree normally, it's OTT for anything stock but in this instance, yes, longevity is the plan: Don't want to be dicking around under the car when I'm 80, so sorting it now, hopefully forever.

30 year old car that has been through 5-10 exhaust systems. New exhausts these days in mild steel can have rotten the back box out within 12 months and the rest gone within 3 years on a daily driven cars. OEM's are now fitting stainless systems so that they can last out the warranty period.

If you plan on keeping a car over 3 years stainless is a no brainer
