They are the Nokian WR SUV.
See link below:-

If you look at the Technical Information, you will note that the tread depth is given as 14/32's (USA market). With a bit of maths, this equates to 11 mm.

Just checked my records and I first bought a set of these tyres in 2005, for my first XC90. They were then fitted, to second XC90 and pensioned off, at 68000+ miles, when I got the XC60.

MPG?
With the tyres at "ECO" pressures (39 psi), I manage the high 30's.
On some trips, to the South of France, I have managed 41/2 MPH, as long as I am not faced with the "Mistral", then that b---ers, everyone's MPG.

Just a shame, that Nokian have stopped manufacturing, this tyre.

what are they like under braking or cornering in the wet? the pirelli's might wear quickly and be rubbish on snow, but they get a very good rating for wet braking and cornering. matched by continental and michelin.

Never noticed any problems with them.

If there were any, I think that I would have noticed, by now, after 100.000 miles +, fitted to XC60 and XC90's.

One set of test results:-

We have a tyre business in our group of companies, the danger with part worns is you dont always know the history, theres quite a few reputable companies that import part worns from germany where they have higher standards than us, they often bring in quality tyres with btween 3 -5 mm that are reasonable value, however the downside is you could be buying something thats been a runflat puncture and is unsafe, if your dealing with a skilled tyre fitter you should be ok because he will spot a damaged tyre easily

Been much talk about the Pirreli tyres supplied with our beloved XC60's. In dealer just now waiting around and note all new XC60's here have Continental CrossContact tyres. Maybe the bosses at Volvo have been evesdropping on the forum...

I have been unimpressed by the original Continental tyres on my XC60 that have worn in a manner to cause some road noise and vibration, noticeable when driving at city traffic speed. These will be scrapped well before they are worn out.

Hopefully the replacement Michelin tyres on order will perform better for much longer.

I don't see the issue with the Pirellis. I had no traction issues at all with AWD in the snow. They ride quietly with good steering feel and braking. The only reason I would go for an alternative brand (Michelin maybe) is to get more miles out of them. I can understand the need for winter tyres on FWD models or if you live on a hill, but for most of the time the standard road tyre is fine. Move to the midlands where life is flat.

Default Tyres Part Worn Chinese Etc

Hi All

Just a point about tyres and cars in general.

I have read a few articles on tyres and their performance - overall performance - wear - wet grip - dry grip -braking distance - handling etc.

One article I believe was in Auto Express and it was found that new chinese tyres were worse performing than half worns branded tyres and took even longer distance to stop.
I would not have chinese tyres.

The better performing tyres were obviously more expensive and due to the rubber compound being softer did wear a little quicker.I think the overall winner was Continental Conti Contact.

I use Continental tyres and whilst they do not last quite as long as say a Pirelli - they are great tyres to be running on with good grip wet and dry , good handling , low noise and good stopping distance.

A little dearer yes - a little less longer lasting yes - but I love them!

Cheers people

Default Have a look at tyres here

And remember with part worn tyres you will not know the history.
Some links that may help.
