Awd prop repair p1 v70
Well my prop shaft cv joint went bad just before Xmas and I have managed to source two new cv joints at the fantastic price of £35+ vat instead of Volvo price of £185+ vat each
I have managed to source the cv joints from www.Driveshaftpart.com and searched for v70 and it pulls one up for the c70 v70 and xc90 so I thought it was best to check. So tonight I needed to check the outside diameter was 86mm and had 20 splines so out came the digital Verniers to get the out side diameter. Then the matter of taking the old one off the prop shaft well I started by removing the circlip which holds the cv joint on the shaft. Once that was removed I broke out the big hammer as I couldn't move it I had tried wd40 and duck oil to help loosen it but to no avail so I had to resort to the aforementioned hammer and a 1/2" long extension for my socket set after trying a bearing puller. Now it's off and the new parts ordered. All I have to do is sit back and wait for them to arrive then I can tackle the end that is full of greese as I am going to do both sides at the same time so I know there good to go. I have to try to figure a way of getting a centre bearing off now So that it can be relplaced as the centre bearing cannot be replaced according to Volvo. As the universal joint had been sweated in this makes splitting the prop an almost impossibility. Will continue this when the parts arrive. |

The only way to change the centre bearing is to cut the prop shaft and change the centre bearing and yoke and have it so that it can be changed in future I got a quote for mine for when it goes as the bearing is dry at the moment and it's about £320 balanced and reprinted
