I cannot get the door lights on the nearside front door and rear off side passenger door to work. I have changed the bulbs but they do not light up.
I have the dreaded sticking microswitch problem in the rear door - but that should mean the light stays on! Does this mean that a fuse has blown somewhere If so where? Any ideas? Loking at the front door with the trim off, it looks a devil of a job to check the wiring. Also is this an MOT issue. Looking at the MOT rules it does not appear to be a problem at present. So if it isn't I will not bother. |

Definitely not checked on an MOT.
I guess yours is an x70? Does anyone know whether the 850 has these infamous microswitches too?

The door master 'lock switch' not locking is symptomatic of one of the microswitches on one of the doors not operating properly - but the question is which lock and which switch. The honest answer is that I'm not really sure!
You don't need to wait until dark to see if the door edge lights are operating correctly; it can be done in daylight! Open each door in turn and see if the light comes on. If the light does come on, you can flip the door catch closed (while the door is open) with your finger (make sure the mechanism goes all the way) and the light should go out. Remember to use the door opening handle to release the catch and put it in the open position before shutting the door! That should give an indication as to which lock may be the guilty party. To 'play' with the microswitches, the door lock really need to be taken out so that you can reach the microswitches and actuate them so that you can see what they do. Once you can work out which the 'guilty' lock, you can proceed further as in the write-up. The actual microswitches cannot be changed on an individual basis; but 'padding' actuating levers might do the trick. Otherwise it is a question of 'shopping around' and getting a replacement. Now these above bits are usually a diy job (saves £55 per hour for the auto electrician) - albeit fiddly and knuckle skin removing. If it is something else, you do have a lot of quite complicated circuitry and some relays involved... but I've not been there!

Thanks.
It's actually a V70, I think the 850 had buttons built into the door frame avoiding all this nonsense. If it's not an MOT issue I shall not bother. |
