Angry Indy garage HELP!!!!

Hello all been reading posts for years and been delighted with all the help you guys have given over the years.I used to do the repairs myself, however the bastard cancer has a grip on me now and mobility is impaired so ive upgraded from a v40 to xc90 (57 plate.New to me) and appear to have bought a duff one..no matter i thought 'ill just get it sorted'..Well 5 months later and 2 different garage bills for over 2 grand and i still have an xc90 looking pretty but sitting on the drive going nowhere fast.
My plea for help.
Can anyone reccomend a good/great mechanic/garage famiiar with the xc90 located in Northampton or nearby

For those that relish the problems of the less fortunate ill add some detail.
Main problem is dpf soot fiter full and limp mode..(been taken off and sent away for cleaning by one garage and 'blasted' by the other).
Engine doesnt sound quite right to me(garages both ignored this)
Various clunks and groans in the engine bay linked to travelling (garage replaced bits for new mot).still having a moan when driving.
Gear lever refuses to move for as long as 30 seconds upon starting, very intermittently.
edit.and now the bloody battery is dead

Hi, may be a bit of a treck, but I use The Volvo Workshop at wickford essex.

They took over a botched job from a garage and fixed my old bus.

Reasonable prices too.

Good luck

Have you tried the " volvo xc90 owners uk" face book page ..... there are a few mobile mechanics on there that seem to do a lot of work .... Ryan Buck gets mentioned a lot

Is the gearlever catch broken? Had that happen on my 07 XC90 and you could not change gear easily and it got worse until it jammed park one day.

A new DPF is about £250 from BM exhausts and better than trying to clean it. You will need to reset the DPF counter using the Volvo VIDA software, not many garages will have this unless volvo specialist or dealer or you get a laptop and do it yourself.

Thanks for responding. I took it up to kettering and had the dpf cleaned again with new sensor repaced(£400). Drove lovely for two days before going in to limp mode again. Can life get any worse? Yes it can, the lawnmower has packed up now.
I will be ringing Sywell now thx
edit: the funny thing is everything worked fine after clean up no gear selector problems and accelerator smooth and responsive, then with no warning limp...yeah reading back it aint that funny

A blocked DPF is a symptom, not the root cause

You need to
a) clean the blocked DPF
b) find what is causing it to block up so fast

You're either burning oil, or running very rich and generating far too much soot
