Default Oh the joys of old cars.

Today was clutch day for my Tank. I have found from previous jobs to expect the unexpected from it and today was no exception.
The bracket from the bell housing onto the exhaust came apart easily. BUT the pivot through the bottom of the gear lever was seized into the lever itself. Ended up having to grind it off and then drift out the remains from the lever.
The impulse sensor wires were almost rubbed through after been wrapped around the oil pipe that runs across the back of the engine.
The clutch itself was just catching the rivets but the flywheel was fine. I fitted a new release arm and pivot ball, spigot bearing and release bearing as well as the clutch.
G/box back up and awaiting bushes, pivot and impulse sensor from dealer tomorrow.
Oh the joys of older cars.😭

No photos as my mind was somewhat pre occupied.😜

Does anyone else have days like this?

Did the bell housing come of the back of the engine OK? I had to persuade mine fairly heavily!

It wasn't the grub screw holding the pivot in was it?

Thanks for sharing anyway, always nice to know it's not just me!

Sounds like a job well done!

Since you've had the g/box off and back on, can I ask whether you were doing it on your own? At some point, I need to do something about the noisy bearings in my 740's gearbox, and trying to decide whether to try to get the box off myself, or wimp out and entrust it to a garage. (Although my increasingly dodgy shoulder may prove to be the deciding factor...!)

It was very tight coming off. It was the two dowels that were the problem. Several pry bars and wiggling was needed to extract it.
Oh - I did remember to put in the top starter bolt before bolting up the back off the box again.

I've done it on my own with help to lower the box to the ground. I did have the luxury of a 2 post ramp to get under it, courtesy of a friend.

I used all genuine parts as I only want to go in there once.

Hi
Oh yes I also had one of them as well. A nice hydraulic one.

Ok, in view of my dodgy shoulder, I don't think I'll try manhandling it out on my own on the driveway with the car on axle stands, then...
