I've been thinking of buying a camera but don't really want trailing wires. My stepdaughter has one which is rechargeable, either from the car socket or from a mains supply. It seems good, and she is happy with it but does anyone know of any drawbacks/disadvantages?

Most dashcams have built in batteries, but after a few months use they barely hold any charge. There would be nothing worse than your battery going flat just as an incident occurs. It's very easy to tuck the wires up the A-pillar and along the front of the headlinging so nothing is visible. Usually, the lead is 2 or 3 metres long so there is no problem running the cable nicely out of the way.
