Default Advice on S80 sought

Hi

I`m looking to buy an automatic S80, under 2 years old and 35000 miles from a main dealer. Ideal spec would be a 2.4 140/170bhp SE. Any major achilles heels I should know about??

Thanks in anticipation.

Only thing I can say is go for the 170bhp, 140's are lacking a bit of power.

Thanks, Ken.

I test drove a 2 year old 170bhp SE auto and certainly wouldn`t want any less power. I pick it up tomorrow morning.

Default RE: Advice on S80 sought

My parents previously had a CD-spec 960 2.5 auto estate and recently bought a 2000 W-reg S80 2.4 manual (170bhp) in SE trim.

Having bought the car with them and sat in the back on a long trip recently, I can only comment from a passenger's view - but I'm very impressed. The rear seats are particulalrly comfortable, to the point that I will refuse to sit in the front seats and prefer to be chauffer-driven! The 960 was a big car but had a much smaller cabin. This S80 has a leather/suede interior: fantastic. Tacky fake wood though and some of the plastics are well below 960 par - but then again our 960 was of higher spec.

Build seems impeccable, although the car has had some paintwork done (I suspect vandalism as I can't detect any filler and the glass is original).

I didn't think the car would be as attractive as other people seem to think it is. Looks fab in metallic Venetian Red with T6 alloys and beige interior - always getting looks from passers by.

Not as wild as the 960 was on kickdown (was only a 4-speed auto), but seems to have bags of torque and is at 3000rpm at 85mph. Grips well and the damping seems very effective. Quality ride.

Go get one - but I'd allow depreciation to do its dirty work and get a 3-year-old model.
