V50 General : Won't go into gear with engine runnIng V50 1.6D Drive 2011

Yesterday I had both drive shaft cv gaiters replaced & transmission fluid drained & replaced on my volvo v50 1.6D DRIVe 6 speed manual 2011 model. All appeared well; until after about 10 miles I couldn't change into any gear (initially 3rd to 4th)! I noticed transmission fluid leaking out from the bearing where the drive shaft enters the gearbox on the drivers side & managed to limp back to the garage where the work was carried out; local independent volvo specialist. I got them to put it onto the ramp in front of my so I could look & they tried to say it was hydraulic fluid, (clutch related)? I'm praying I'm not being fitted up so to speak! Hope it turns out okay for you in the end Paul but it seems pretty conclusive they have done something whilst working on your car?

Sounds like it won't go into gear as its leaking, so no hydraulic pressure as such. You say it's leaking from the shaft to gearbox bearing, I would think when they've had the shafts out to replace the gaiters theyve nicked the gearbox oil seal when putting the splined part of the shaft back in. This results in the pressure when the clutch is depressed being enough to blow the seal completely.

They're rectifying the input shaft bearing leak issue & when that's done they're taking my motor to a main dealership to have the clutch master cylinder recall done. Fingers crossed I get it back before Saturday. I don't half miss it :-/

Update: Picked the motor up last night. Input shaft bearing was replaced & fresh transmission fluid, so that's that bit rectified! Furthermore, it was established that the concentric slave cylinder had failed & that's ultimately why it wouldn't go into any gear easily!, (bad timing, but it's done me a massive favour because).....
Volvo covered it under recall via a policy action bulletin; meaning the job was totally covered by Volvo! Anyway, whilst they had it apart, they established the clutch was worn & I agreed to pay for a new clutch to be fitted, (around £170+vat); & they labour absorbed into the recall, (they'd have to re-fit the clutch either new or worn, so makes sense!).
So the total work carried out: 2x driveshaft CV gaiters, fresh transmission fluid, clutch CSC slave cylinder & release bearing, new clutch fitted during recall; oh & 12mths MOT! I'm looking at around £400 all in! :-)
It was always a smooth drive anyway; but now it's like a brand new motor! Gearbox & clutch are silky smooth! I hope this info is of great assistance to others & it shows; always do your homework & check for outstanding recalls or even if something is covered on I guess, a Volvo policy action! Good luck :-)
