'96 Volvo S40 For Spares/Repair
Hey Guys,
Gonna keep this short and sweet any questions please PM me or message below and i'll reply A.S.A.P The car is in good shape bodywise no major dents/dings Am selling due to getting another car and i don't have the time/knowledge to repair this one thats why it's going for spares/repair. There is an electrical fault which has knocked out the interior cabin lights and stereo and digital clock, the speedo light still works. There is a Whirring noise coming from the unit below the fuse box (don't know what it is.) There is a hole in the exhaust pipe, and the gear linkage bushes could do with being looked at. Also there is a split in the aircon hose and it has evaporated i have purchased a replacement hose but never got it fitted. The car is in good shape bodywise and is fitted with the later PH2 headlights (one bulb is blown) The Interior Is pretty clean with no tears in the upholstery. Mileage is at 126k For the car with no alloys i am looking at £250 o.n.o MOT until MAY/JUNE TAX until end of FEB (have the renewal letter) WITH alloys £450 o.n.o they are 17" wheels with practically new tyres. i still have a spare wheel and the four original steel wheels to go with the car and haynes manual. Pictures: Willing to accept sensible offers as i know it's not perfect. It could be a good workhorse for someone if they know what they are doing. Shaun |

It's the 20amp INT.LIGHT that is blown. And if you put a new one in it blows again. Hence why I said electrical fault and not a blown fuse.
People are saying most likely the harness under the rad is the cause but I don't have the tools/time knowledge to sort it. Ill put this up on eBay tonight/tomorrow. But will cancel for anyone on here seeing as you guys have been a great help with most things. And it's the 1.8 petrol |

If so, it's the secondary air pump - a now totally unnecessary item fitted to cars of this vintage (including my own) to help the car pass cold emissions tests that were in force at the time of manufacture, but that are no longer used. (The idea, I gather, is that it pumps cleaner air into the exhaust manifold for a minute or two after a cold start - bit of a cheat, but there you are). A bearing fails in the pump (which is under the engine bay fuse box) and it makes a whining/whirring noise. The solution is simply to unplug the pump's electrical connector. Completely free and dead easy to do, and has no negative consequences whatsoever - doesn't throw any codes, light any lights, cause you to fail emissions tests, or affect performance in any way or anything. I did this on my V40 over two years ago, following advice here.

Thanks for the info on that.
I'm not planning on keeping the car so can do this to benefit the next owner. Unless it goes to the scrap man. And then those wheels will be for sale. Plus the deflectors. |

Going to the scrap yard tomorrow unless someone can match the £150 they offered me.
It's a shame but I haven't got the time or even a spot to store it. Any takers please get back to me before 10/11 am tomorrow. Wheels won't be going to the scrappy. |
