Default Xc70 gearbox oil flush

I did a gearbox oil change and flush on my 2006 v70 when I had it. It had the self level system. I want to do a cha ge on my 2008 xc70. Same gearbox (TF-80SC). Is it the same process and system?

Yes. Same as in the Volvosweden video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAb9p8Wph-M

No faffing about filling through the dipstick tube!

I do an ATF sump dump annually on my '09 XC D5 with TF-80SC, and its done in under an hour.

Sounds good.

Do you think its necessary to change all the washers?

Nope... I never have.

Make sure it gets a good drive between consecutive dumps.

On the youtube vid, he just goes through the gears for 10secs each....

Is that not sufficient?

I don't think it is. I normally " temporarily " leave the tray off and do a hundred miles or so between sump dumps

+1 on the fill tube washer. I didn't replace last time.

o ring on level tube and the fill plug (never needed myself) can be purchased generic but haven't found a fill tube washer other than genuine (£7 each).

level tube oring - https://www.autodoc.co.uk/febest/14957733
fill plug oring - https://www.autodoc.co.uk/febest/14957729

Good advice from Tannaton & S60D5-185. Some miles between dumps seems to be the favoured approach. I did a double sump dump 1st time as fluid hadn't been changed since new, then one annual dump so no need for multiple dumps.

No - whist the car is stationary there will be a number of areas of the gearbox where the oil will just sit such as the differential chamber etc. and that will be the old, dirty oil.

The car needs to be driven - even if only 10 miles - and go up and down all the gears a few times to properly mix the fluid.

By doing 3 drain and fills with £30 worth of fluid and the car stationary, the fluid quality and gear changes were dramatically improved.
The picture demonstrates it nicely and the owner is still extremely happy with the improvement 9 months on.

Vida doesn't tell you to drive the car between changes and if you pay a main dealer top dollar to change your fluid, they sure as hell won't repeatedly drive the car so it's basically down to you just how paranoid you're going to be about doing the job.

You can have a great result from a couple of hours of effort or you can nerd out and spend an entire day or repeated drain and fills over several weeks and hundreds of miles if you want perfection.
It's a broad church.

The fact that you're bothering to change the fluid at all is half the battle and the rest is up to you.

Brilliant.

All set to do it tomorrow. I'm going to do a double or triple flush. Taking the caravan away this weekend so it's going to get a good 300 mile run. I'll flush it again when I get back.

Is vida a must like the youtube video? I do have vida but the laptop is packed away and I'm not sure exactly where it is.
