Anyway, back to MOT info. My MOT test states that for fast idle of 2500 - 3000 rpm the CO was 0.08 % against a limit of 0.20% and for natural idle of 450-1500 rpm the CO was 0.29% against the limit of 0.30%.It also states the for fast idle HC was 33ppm against limit of 200ppm and for natural idle no details given! Should one be able to challenge the decision by TFL in their web site that says my V90 1997 will be chargeable in ULEZ? If so anyone any idea about doing this? I note TonyS9 you gave CO of 2.2.g/km to achieve Euro 2, but I am unable to convert this to % as given in my MOT cert. All a bit confusing, but if anyone can unravel it I am sure it will be most helpful to Volvo owners.
Like Jim said further up Derek, the values tested at idle/fast idle for the MoT aren't relatable or comparable to the "real world" figures achieved by the new tests that the government/TfL parameters are based on. It's not possible to directly convert figures from your MoT test to a g/km of pollutants.
As for challenging TfL on their ULEZ, i doubt you'd get far, they will have a huge legal team if it ever got that far and enough staff to politely but firmly tell you to "deal with it, pay up or shut up or buy a BEV" and counter any questions/arguments you may have to the ULEZ charging that i think is just another stealth tax.

You could of course buy a Honda Insight, you could probably pick one up cheaply enough now that most will be 30 years old and really confuse them! It's a hybrid for those who haven't heard of it so should be eligible for some exemption on the ULEZ, how much i have no idea though. If you want to keep your V90, have a chat with these people :

https://www.londonelectriccars.com/

They converted a 1993 Mini to electric power, it is Congestion and ULEZ charge exempt so they must be able to advise how to register that change with the DVLA but they suggest budgeting £30k for the conversion.

Fantastic answer!

We all know that the climate is changing because the earth is tilting on its axis and making the northern hemispehere closer to the sun than normal so we're having very warm summers (when we get them), warmer winters and Australia is getting snow in June and typical British weather. It will all return to normal some time after Gertcha Thornybum and her ilk have long since disappeared from our planet and we will simply carry on as we always have, accepting the weather that is thrown at us.

Yes the polar ice cap may shrink as a reult of the top half of our planet getting a much needed bit of sun but ice takes up more volume that water so it won't create floods like the doom-mongers would have us believe, or a monumental increase in the relative height of the seas to our shores. The very slight increase that would occur if the polar icecap melted in its entirity would be spread about the millions of square miles of oceans on the planet and not all on the shore of Brighton, Cromer, Torquay, Skegness or Blackpool.

Some panic-merchant scientist who got their qualifications for good attendance rather than academic achievement obviously was smoking too much wacky-baccy or had been using their science labs to cook meth instead of proper experiments, possibly both suddenly decided they'd discovered global warming and rising sea levels and declared it an international emergency. Now they have to continue the lie or look stupid and as others have bought into that lie (ive seen well educated meteorologists accept rising sea levels as fact because someone else who is allegedly qualified told them so - they haven't literally proved it by measuring themselves) and so the myth is perpetuated.

For far too long now, universities have been teaching people what to think, not how to think. As such we have supposedly well educated people who can't think fot themselves making them more gullible than the average person who hasn't been to university. However because they have that bit of paper declaring them and MSc or similar, people are forced to believe them.

For example, i have a few medical problems that i don't generally talk about but on several ocasions i have queried something i've been told by one specialist or another with a well-thought-out engineering based argument. This has forced them to think outside the box that university taught them all their thoughts should be in and then they have admitted firstly they'd never thought of that possibility but also that it was almost certainly correct and in a few cases, definitely correct to the point it was added to their diagnosis/prognosis.

All i'm saying in short is that we need to stop accepting things just one or two people decide are facts and spout off to the entire world just because it's easier to believe them than do some research ourselves and find out the true situation. Who knows, my idea about the aeth tilting on its axis and alterning our climate might be wrong but we knew, long before climate change was even a twinkle in Mr Thornybums eye or anyone elses that the earth naturally tilts on its axis and has done for time immemorial. It's a more logical conclusion than our use of fossil fuels over the past century when we have been burning fossil fuels for several millennia just to keep warm.

Just when I thought I was losing my mind someone else summed up exactly what I think is wrong with the world, what a relief.
I know it doesn't help those who have to go into and around London but personally if I never have to drive a coach there again it couldn't come soon enough.
Over the last 10 years it has become impossible, ranging from emission changes to parking being turned into cycle ways, the Embankment being the most pathetic idea ever.
Of course coaches don't bring in any revenue just black exhaust smoke, and if every operator in the just the UK had the cash to go Euro 6 there would be a massive waiting time for new vehicles, let alone all the European operators too.
So knowing that the Gov put heavy duties [£200 min] on operators that don't comply, for now anyway.
As a result a trip to London is a rare thing now even the O2 and send passengers on the clipper is under threat, as I say couldn't come soon enough.

Yous are all fkn mad. Even the oil companies agree that burning fossil fuels is causing climate change. But no, you accept a few crackpots on the internet, THATs blind faith!

In any case as, I have already stated ULEZ is nothing to do with climate change, is pollution related. Climate change is not caused by pollution.

Unreal! Burning fossil fuels creates pollution, unmitigated fact.

You have stated burning fossil fuels is causing climate change then categorically state "Climate change is not caused by pollution."

You literally can't have it both ways!

That's even worse than blind faith, that's bordering on the edges of being able to accept doublethink as a way of life! Worse still, someone agreed with you without realising the basic oxymoron in your statement!

Not sure if that is sarcasm, but to explain, burning fossil fuels causes pollution AND greenhouse gases that causes climate change. Pollution is temporary and local, greenhouses gases like CO2 are permanent until they are captured and changed by photosynthesis or other chemical processes.

We can breath the small concentrations of CO2 that cause climate change without harm, we cannot beathe the pollution without consequences.

I can have it both ways.. If you understood the difference.

ULEZ is for pollution not climate change. Road tax is for climate change, EV subsidies are for climate change, carbon neutral targets are for climate change.

Default Ulez

Can anyone explain just how a vehicle is recorded as entering ULEZ area? Surely there are not cameras at every turn off from the North and South Circulars! And if TFL is using ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) cameras where does the mobile signal go to report an 'intruder'? and how does it differentiate between those that can go through ULEZ and those that can't? This leaves me somewhat thinking it is really just a move by TFL to rely on drivers obeying their demand. If there are no ULEZ signs at the entrance to all those turnings off the N&S Circular roads the rule cannot be enforced surely?
