We have 2no. of the current version of Touaregs on the fleet at work with another on the way. They are good cars overall and stand up well to the high mileages we do (50-60k per annum).
Would I choose one over my XC60? No - its not even close really. I went in our newest one a week or so back (a V6 petrol Black edition) and the only whilst I love the engine, that was the only thing that was a plus point over my car - and even that is only a minor gripe - it can't run completely silently like my T8 can! They're also incredibly boring - I actually look forward to every journey in my Volvo. It's the most comfortable car I have ever been in and you never fail to appreciate the interior design every time you get in, the crystal gear knob being a particular highlight. VW would never even think of putting something like that in their cars. What about things like the Volvo on call app? Despite all VW's resources, nothing equivalent exists for the Touareg - one of my favourite features of the Volvo is the ability to have the car completely ready to go (defrosted etc) before I get to it and the car already warm. Also if you look at the stats you will also find that Volvo's reliability is ahead of VW - yes there might be a few software glitches etc from time to time but I think you will find an equally high number of posts on VW forums about these things as well. I owned my last Volvo for over 3 years and never had a single fault and therefore never felt the need to join a forum. And if the views of a Volvo forum aren't good enough then FWIW - WhatCar rate Touareg 3 stars, XC90 4 stars.

Is it really true that when buying this "premium" VW Touareg, you have to pay extra for digital clocks?

When I looked - a year in ago - in the UK there were three trim levels for the Touareg and only the top one had the digital instrument panel whereas on a Golf R (£20k+ less) they were standard.

As for WhatCar, I rate their opinion as highly as much as Clarksons, neither of them would know a car if it ran them over. |

When you mean digital clocks? do you a timepiece or instrument panel, the higher models only get the Innovision Cockpit, but unlike the Volvo it is customisable, not just changing the rings around the dials. Given all the other top manufactures are now implementing this in their cars I would expect Volvo to do the same with the new XC90

I meant digital instrument panel. As I wrote, I feel that this should be present in any premium car.

It wasnt on all XC90's prior to the 2018 facelift, in fact on the lower models it had the noddy speedo and tacho as digital and the fuel and temp gauges looked like they came off a 1970's princess

It is a pity it took 40 years for the rest to be forced to have day running lights though in recent years .

Computastar is obviously anti Volvo, so be it. I am not, and never have been impressed with the VW offerings. They are not bad, but have issues like all other manufacturers. A colleague of mine is an executive taxi driver. He has a large Merc estate, goes fine, little trouble, but he would love to change it for a V90.

To the best of my knowlegde there has been no SPA XC90 without it, be it 8" or 12". I suspect you know this too. Unless you can show proof, I consider your statement above as false.
