Default Boring Boring Boring ECU's

This post is mainly intended for the likes of Don and Adam, but anyone feel free to contribute.

I know this subject has been done to death with the merits of product A vs. those of product B etc, etc. I don't want to start a "war", I just want some good info please.

My 95 854 T5 Auto has undergone an engine rebuild (approx 10,000 kilometres ago) and I'm thinking about upping the horsepower slightly more than a tad...maybe 280 or 300 odd. The engine was rebuilt to near standand spec's.

I don't want to effect powertrain reliability or longevity as I'm hoping to keep the car for a few years, however I do feel that it's time for some more grunt.

Five questions...

1) Would this upgrade be advisable at this stage?

2) Can either of you tell me if there is a dealer for your products in New Zealand?

3) If so, who?

4) What sort of cost am I looking at ($NZ)?

5) Would a MBC be a better (cost effective) alternative?

Cheers,

its the most simple upgrade, as it does not involve opening the ecu.

hi matey mine was a std 225bhp 850 2.3 manual lump which seems fine until i bought a rica 304 ecu but left my std 15g (quicker spool up)im unsure of what bhp its kicking out but has to be very close to 300bhp ,what makes it more nuts its sat in the rear of my vw bug?,a mbc is a quick easy power upgrade ,but if youve had the engine rebuilt id have ur ecu remaped to make sure everythings done properly, after all u dont want to just think ill fit a 30 .00 mbc then it starts over boosting causeing engine failure??the ecu upgrade is around 295?which is money will spent?and u know ur car will handle the power safely, hope it helps a bit,
