Default S40 Won't Start/relay clicking/battery ok

Hey guys,
Used the car as normal yesterday parked it up and locked it up.
This morning it won't turn over at all not even attempting to crank.
The battery is fine all electrics work as it should lights etc.

When trying to start it i get a continuos clicking from the engine relay box area.
Could this just be the solenoid? don't really wan't to attempt push starting it if it's not the cause, any ideas?

My Keys are falling apart so i thought it could be the immobilizer however the immobilizer light comes on as normal and goes off before i attempt to turn the ignition on.

Thanks in advance
Shaun

EDIT: I have had this car for 5/6 months and it hasn't failed me once at all, strange it has happened so suddenly.

Injector? http://www.volvoforum.com/volvo-main...ng-issues.html

Or a faulty fuel shut-off solenoid on the diesel pump. Get someone to turn the ignition key to position 2 while you listen for the solenoid to click open. If it doesn't click straight away you've found the problem. http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=33648

Faulty high pressure fuel pump?

Crank position sensor?

I thought that the clicking was a sign of not enough power in the battery. In my previous V40, I had this after camping when my daughter used the DVD player too much. Everything worked in the car OK (lights, radio, DVD etc.), but it wouldn't start, it just clicked. Some jump leads got it going again. And a new battery was purchased, so I never had it again...

I agree with you Phil, that was my first thought too, but Shaun said that the battery is fine and that is why I jumped to all other things that could cause these symptoms.

Maybe Shawn should try another battery and see what happens. Also check if any of the earth points going to the gearbox or chassis are not corroded

Well done for mentioning the earth wire. As it has snapped.
The earlier version has only one wire an the later has two wires.
From terminal to chassis and one from terminal to bell housing.
After much scratching of the head and pointing at the starter motor noticed the wire was corroded and broke. Very surprised it manage to start perfectly up until that point. Ah well. £5 fix and am happy!

Common issue on our cars. That is why I have greased mine so they last even longer...
