Default Anybody have a trailing arm bushing tool?

My rear axle trailing arm bushings are pretty much dead, and will need doing before the MOT at the end of May. I don't have the time to make a bushing tool as detailed online, and I'm certainly not paying a garage to do it. Does anybody on here have a the Volvo tool (or even a decent working homebrew tool) they could lend me? I'll pay postage both ways, give you a deposit on the tool if you wish, and some beer money as a thankyou

Hi. Have you considered poly bushings, like in Mikes how too?

Though it worthy of a 'mench'

I've definitely considered it, and while I'm building a 'sporting' 240, the poly reaction rod bushes I installed have already provided a considerable increase in noise and vibration. I've also heard several stories from people in the know on turbobricks that the poly TABs are prone to binding and actually decease roadholding.

Are you sure that the noise and vibration is not coming from the shot axle bushes? The improved location of the top arms will exentuate the movment in the lower bushing.

What make top arm poly bushes have you used? IPD superflex or Classicswede?

I've got a set of IPD adjustable trailing arm bushes with iPD poly in them. I stumbled onto them dead cheap just after I got the car, and the original reaction rod bushes were dust. I'm not hugely impressed with them, the poly starts squeaking every few months as if on cue and has to be dismantled and regreased, and the lock nut on the driver's side rod tends to come loose due to the twisting action on the torque rod as the axle articulates.

My major rattles have always been rear and front shock absorbers.

How do you test a rattle on them? 100k change them!

These British roads.........only £8 billion spent. £55 billion road taxes.

The French have got it right......I just could not believe how smooth the surfaces were. 130 kl/hr (81.25mph) speed limit, just eat up those miles. Love those natural N roads too.

Brianh 465373 miles. Can't wait, nearly there.

All the IPD bushes I have seen look to be of poor quality (made in china??) with a very rough finish. The manufacturing techniques that they appear to use and formulation of the material are far from ideal but with the price of teh IPD bushes that is no suprise. Did you grease the bushes when you fitted? PU should be greased on fitment. If the rods take the original style bushes I would change them for better quality parts.

The old Roman roads would have been smoother than most of the roads in the UK now!
