Hi All
Can someone tell me whether the pulley size on my power steering pump is crucial? Currently I have a 142mm one but I understand there are some 130mm ones about. Will it just mean that the tensioner takes up the slack in the drive belt?

Yes , you are right about the tension pulley but just be aware that the non OE belts can vary in length as well , by about 20mm i seem to remember .

Obviously the change of diameter will also affect how fast the pump spins, whether or not that amount of change has any effect as such I have no idea
is it not possible to find one that matches the size you have / or what was the purpose for changing it |

The pump has failed so requires replacement. I suppose it's not a major job to swop the pulleys over if required. I have, rightly or wrongly, gone for a s/hand one and wasn't aware of the pulley difference until after ordering it.

ah ok so the replacement is a whole new (different) pump with that smaller pulley already fitted?
if that's the case perhaps we can assume the size is right for that pump as opposed to putting a smaller pulley on to your existing pump for some other reason Last edited by stuart bowes; May 7th, 2024 at 13:24. |

If the auxillary belt is in good order and you are not replacing it then you should be OK seeing as the "new" pulley is smaller .
