My 960 usually empties the puddles over whatever happens to be standing next to it. However, there is 1 puddle on the lane where I live that always throws itself across the screen. I don't mean a little either (drenched - can't see). This happens to be on a slight right hand bend, and on the right hand side of the car...

My XC90 does seem to be worse for this than my Disco, but not significant enough for me to worry about it.

I too have noticed the same problem with my XC90, in response to Ron I have mud flaps fitted and it makes no difference, never had this problem with the V70.

Have exactly the same problem with my XC90
Running Conti cross contact tyres without mudflaps
I suspect it's the wheel arch size so unless you want to "pimp" your motor it's just a case of anticipating standing water and putting the wipers on
That said if you do hit a puddle unexpectedly - sorry SED5 but sometimes you can't avoid every risk - the deluge of water is immense
Only hapens on nearside though?

To update my earlier post I have now experienced it and I found it was because I was tying to avoid the puddle by driving further out from the kerb. When I move closer to the kerb as the narrow roads in Scotland made me do the spashback didn't happen. This makes me think it's water prjoected from the tyres hitting the kerb/bank at just the right angle and splashing back.

Hitting water at 35mph will make a big splash though.
