Default Rusty wheel nuts - 6 mths old

I'll get these done under warranty but it's surprising that after only 6 months all four wheels are showing signs of rust on the nuts. Anyone else have this problem on a new-ish 90? Could it be down to the snow/salt we've had recently? Or could it be the liquid that the eastern European car washers use as a pre-soak on the wheels prior to cleaning them? I'll put pics up later.

I had the same issue and my Dealer fixed it under warranty at the 3 mth service but I then had the same issue come back by 12 mths. Dealer says they swapped the full 16 (excluding locking) at 3 months and claim they did the same again at 12 months though this time I think they just swapped the rusty ones with some old nuts as whilst the rusty ones have gone none look new.

I am amazed that this is still an ongoing problem. My 04 XC90 which I bought new had to have the nuts replaced and my 09 Exec. Its been a known problem for years, why don't they get a different supplier/spec? its not difficult.

This can be caused by using an acidic or alkali alloy wheel cleaner - if you do use a wheel cleaner, avoid spraying the wheel nuts.

I've never used a specialist wheel cleaner and my nuts are the originals (03) and have no rust.

Here's what they look like. It's interesting that it is another known problem. If the quality is this bad I'll just have to keep putting warranty claims in.

Very poor show from a company who must be very experienced in snow/salt conditions.

Mine looked similar - though I had no rusting on the locking wheel nut.

When I was in the dealers last week I did read something about a new design of wheel nut that Volvo were now using. Can't recall what leaflet / model this might have been for - but from what I recall there was some improvement to avoid the wheel nut getting damaged when used and there was also some change to the locking wheel nut as well.
