940 hpt top speed 127mph 0-60 9.3 sec ( 940 sport has t+ and hits 190 bhp so will be quicker than 960 ) I think the sport was possibly 8.7 sec 0-60
Thanks for that Mark, arguably speaking with the 3.0 (or 2.9 if that's how you identify it) in a 940, with the ~20% weight reduction then it should, in theory at least be ~20% quicker than the 9.1s to 60 which is about 1.8s quicker so 7.3s to 60 in a 940 with the 960 engine.

I don't know the diff ratios but they may also make it quicker or slower to 60 and have a marginal effect on top speed (+/- 2mph maybe) so i'd guess the hypothetical 2.9/3.0 940 would hit 129-133mph depending on diff ratio - seems like a lot of work for very little gain though!

Especially if you errrrrrrrrrrrrr............................ "hide" it so that you "don't know anything about it, a previous owner must have done it - wondered why it was quicker than the others i looked at!"

Don't want to hijack this thread ( even though we already have )
but would the whiteblock engine be heavier than the redblock which could reduce the weight advantage ?

I'm sure i read somewhere that despite the extra 2 cylinders, the whiteblock is still lighter than the redblock because it's all-aluminium rather than cast iron block/aluminium head as the redblock is Mark. If i happen to find that link again i'll add it but it was some time back and errrrrrrrrr............... i've been asleep since then!

Slight hijack i admit but it sprang from confusion over Volvos own badging of a 940 that was spotted................................ i think the jury has retired and taken Horlicks...............

For the record Dave. You are probably right about the 2.3 logo. Car wasn’t there today.

Spotted an R reg blackberry 940 estate and a light metallic blue (must find the name for this colour) N reg 940 in Cornwall only a few streets apart in Perranporth.

Not a 7/900, but on my way back from Suffolk on Sunday I spied a 240 on the A11 with a cat loose in the back...the animal kind, not the type currently in demand for scrap!
