Default 850 estate rear bumper brackets and fixings

Hi All,

My 1995 850 estate has the usual wonky rear bumper and im fact came with two new bumper brackets when I bought it as the seller said it'd need doing.

I dismantled it on Mon to find the original brackets in a terrible state, one virtually crumbled to dust and the other all corroded and distorted.

The new brackets I have however are about an inch bigger than the existing ones and the fixings don't line up so I assume from the wrong model?

Does anyone know if the Volvo dealer can still supply the correct brackets plus the two long vertical bolts and four smaller horizontal ones as they are in a horrible state too and need replacing. What's the best method to reattach the wheel arch liners too, rivets?

I'll post some pics when not using my phone and check part numbers on the new brackets I have in case anyone else wants them?

Thanks
Stu

I got new brackets and bolts last year through Simon (Rufe) at FRF Swansea. I'll see if i can find the part number.

it is definitely for the brackets, bolts i'm not sure, i think they are separate but don't have a part number. It would be easy enough to source replacements though.

Found the numbers for all bolts:

Two new long bracket-to-bumper bolts and washers (part numbers 973096 and 960143)

Four new bracket to car frame bolts and washers (part numbers 985191 and 986527)

Wow, Martin - that's really helpful, part numbers and everything - much appreciated. I'll call the local Volvo dealer tomorrow and see if I can get them for the weekend as the car looks a bit odd bumperless!

I collected the new brackets and bolts from the Volvo dealer this morn, all look correct so hopefully the bumper will be back on ASAP. I've got the prices on the invoice if anyone is interested and can post them up?

The six washers were on back order from Sweden and due next week so I've left those and will have a dig in the garage for some suitable stainless alternatives to use as I want to get the car back together this weekend.

To add some visual excitement (!) to the thread, here's the pics I mentioned previously of the old, assume original by the state of them, brackets.

1. The 'good' one...

2. The 'less good' one! (clue, it's that pile of rust on the floor under the exhaust in this pic - mostly disintegrated!)

On a semi-related note, a neighbour who used to drive these cars when new tells me it should have a single square tailpipe? Is that correct, and if so are they still available? I'm not overly keen on the twin round upswept ones you see above as it happens.

Thanks again,
Stu

Hi Stu

Hope you are getting on ok with the car.

Looks like brackets were well past it!

Brackets I supplied were off a 95 850 saloon, i presumed they were the same.

Found the bolts i forgot to give you too, sorry.

Regards

Martyn

By the way, I believe the twin tailpipe was a rare option.

If you want to sell there is somebody looking for one on this or another volvo forum.

Regards

Martyn
