Question Uprated Front shocks only?

Hi, if I want to fit aftermarket uprated front dampers to my S40 is there any reason why I can't change fronts without changing rears? No new springs, just dampers. Seems one of mine might be knackered and seems there are some blistein ones available for stack loads cheaper than volvo supplied ones! Just wanted to check.

Thanks,
Pete

There is now reason why not.
The only thing to remember is springs / dampers need to replaced as matched pairs.

Yeah - which from a wallet perspective is a shame if only one of the dampers is knackered, but there you go.

I did this many years back and I found the difference between the now relatively taut and planted front end and the bouncy and poorly controlled back end was just too obvious and I ended up having to get the back ones done as well.

Might be cheaper in terms of labour just to do a deal and get them all done at the same time?

That said, this was a 1984 Vauxhall Cavalier

Cheers,
J

It is a shame but an important rule to go by. We've just had a car in that was woundering every where - Caused by only one damper having been replaced due to acident damage!

Sounds like no issues with changing front only unless I decide I want to do the back as well, at some point. Would be doing it myself so no labour costs.

Cheers,
Pete
