The seats I had in my old V70 (no extenders) - best I've had.

My 2019 V60 Inscription had the extenders - I seriously considered swapping the car after a few months as even with the extender fully back there was still a ridge that cut the circulation off in my leg. It took about 25000 miles before it softened to the point where it was bearable.

I vowed not to buy another Volvo with them, and ended up with a V60 Core this year. It has leather seats, virtually the same design as the V70. No extenders. Both my wife and I both find them FAR more comfortable - the seat is a seat, not a series of ridges and hard lines as on the previous car. It also doesn't have a stupid gap where dirt and dust collect! The fact I have to pull on a bar to slide it back and forth is irrelevant - they're set in place and will stay in that place until we move the car on.
Agree completely, extenders pointless and increasingly difficult to buy a Volvo without them. Overthinking ruining a brilliant brand.

One of the reaons we started from Momentum trim adding things we like and
at the same time avoiding things we don't like were the Inscription seats.
We have a Momentum with standard seats. They are great.

In fully closed position, it should be the same as without them, shouldn't it? When I open it all the way, it's also uncomfortable for me, but in closed position, it's OK.

Not in my experience. There is still a bit of a ridge and the front edge is stiffer, even after 100000 miles of bouncing around on it.

We just got a 2020 V90 CC with 98kkm to replace the 2007 XC70 (with 550kkm).

After 2000km in it I can comfortably say the seats in the V90 are extremely uncofortable compared to the XC, especially on the weekly 2h+ commute.

Didn't notice the ridge in the middle with the extenders at full on the test drive. I did notice the problem is less on the passenger side - probably wasn't used as much. Meaning it will probably only get worse on driver with mileage going up.

I hate them already but am willing to try more settings...

I can safely say that both of the Volvo's I have owned (XC60 Recharge Polestar Engineered cars) have had the most comfortable seats of any car I have driven.
I am used to sculpted, firm sports seats as that is the genre of car I go for and the Polestar Engineered seats are both sculpted and firm but cosset me in every way I need for them not to be in any way uncomfortable, even after a 6+ hour drive.
I'm neither tall or short (at 5ft 7") but always have the extenders in their fully extended position for the added thigh support.
The PE seats are a figure hugging seat (more so than the standard R-Design seats as the side bolsters are bigger to give better support during fast cornering) and so wont be a good fit for people with larger frames but I have yet to find a car with a better comfort/support balance outside of a custom fit race bucket seat & harness however, my own personal opinion of a 'comfortable' car/seat will be quite different to the majority of traditional Volvo owners as I find all of the standard Volvo cars (on air suspension especially) far to soft and squidgy for my liking and I feel like I will slide out of standard seats when I get to the first corner.

As with most things comfort & ride quality wise, its all a very subjective subject with once persons comfortable being another persons torturous and vice versa.
Its all just a matter of finding whats right for you and if the Volvo seats aren't that, keep looking. I've never found that a good session of complaining has ever made my comfort levels any better without physically changing something.

I have a 2019 xc90 r design on air.

It comfortable but not as good as my previous Range Rover.
My wife hates the Volvo seats. I must admit, the seats in her Audi are much more comfy. And they are sports seats in a car with stiff springs and low profiles.

Steve.

I found the Range Rover seats too flat.

I'm in Momentum which seems to be less stiff. I'm 6 foot and 14 stone but not broad on the seat base.

I have the seats with the leg extenders in a V60 Inscription and I have the front of the seat at it's lowest setting and the extenders fully in. I find these seats far more comfortable than those in the Mercedes E class & EQC I've had recently. The E class had no seat extenders, but the EQC did.

I don't find them uncomfortable at all.

Very subjective thing, seats....

The whole reason we ended up with Volvo is due to seat comfort. Of all the cars we've owned my wife struggled getting comfortable, the worst being a VW Tiguan.
She tried an XC40 R-Design and loved the seats in that, so we purchased a new one which we then replaced with an XC60 a few years later. The only 2 cars we've owned where she doesn't moan about seat comfort. Must admit do find the XC60 very comfortable on long journeys....
