Default V70 shaped cv boot

Hello
I have just removed my ns driveshaft off my 2007 mk 2 2wd V70 D5 185 due to a minute pin hole split
I have unclipped the cv boot and notice it has an unusual 6 sided shape on the larger end
And 3 rollers as opposed to ball bearings
Dealer part only I imagine .cant find it on eurocarparts etc
What I found strange is that the boot was full of a high viscosity oil. , not grease ?

PS
Do I need to remove the outer cv to chage the inner

Many Thanks

Hi.
What you have described is an automatic transmission driveshaft and the roller
part is a trunnion bearing.
You will need to separate the inner shaft from the outer CV Joint.

You have what is known as a tripod joint your dealer will have a kit with the correct lubrication and clips etc

you don't need to take the outer joint off you pull the tripod joint out of its housing once you have the outer end of the driveshaft disconnected from the hub . it will ease out if you angle the shaft and tap it . watch for all the needle rollers though try and keep the 3 cups on the cross piece ! It is easier with 2 , one holding the weight of the shaft.

I should have waited
I have now removed the outer cv and slid the offending inner boot off
I like causing work for myself !

It`s as broad as it is long...
Trying to get the tripod bearings back in can be a real sod , especially if you are working alone.
What you had here were two schools of thought . Neither of which were wrong.

New cv boot arrived today
Great service from Craig at Listers Volvo Worcestershire
New boot ,grease 2 clips hub bolt
fitted like glove
A bit shocked at £10.20 + vat for the expanding ring though !
I suppose a small price to pay to stop the shaft popping out
