Default S60 2.0T SE P2 Brake Fluid Query

Hi All

Want to do a brake fluid renewal next on my 2004 S60 2.0T SE, and just want clarify my findings on brake fluid type and capacity are correct. Its probably well overdue as the fluid is pretty dark.

From what I’ve discovered I need to use DOT 4+ brake fluid, and the system takes about 0.6 litre. Can any of you kind folk confirm this is right please?

Many thanks in advance

Most things take dot 4 but I will let someone else confirm.

I do my own fluid and just perhaps remember that while capacity is 0.6l you won’t be able to flush all lines out with 0.6 as you need to get to discharge fresh in order to know it’s purged the system.

Are you doing it yourself?

I personally always order 2l which is pretty wasteful to be honest, you may do it with 1?

Yeah, I will be doing the change myself.

Thanks for the tips, I have read a lot use DOT 4. And sound advice getting 2 litres to do a proper flush, it may seem overkill, but as I said the old fluid looks pretty old so would rather get every last bit out of the system.

I wanted to confirm the fluid type as the brake fluid reservoir cap states DOT 4, but manual and Haynes both say DOT 4+

use DOT 5.1 ESP.

this and DOT 4+ are the only ones that have matching viscosity at low temps.

in practice I doubt it makes any difference but its only £18 for a whole litre which is more than enough to do a full flush. ( bleed off 150ml-200ml per wheel)

I use Comma dot 4 esp which is iso 6 rated.
The hand book for my previous car ( Jaguar ) stated use dot 4+ but if unavailable use an ios 6 rated dot 4.
Hope that makes sense.
